My Vesey's catalog came today and I am fascinated with Sunberries- but there isn't any info- I googled it and got some negative info comparing it to nightshades- this all after I ordered a pack of seed! Vesey's has free shipping -
Sunberry- anyone have any info?
Seems to be a renamed or maybe a new variety of Garden Huckleberry Solanum melanocerasum. Tradewinds list it as an alternate name. http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/garden_huckleberry.htm. Been around since Noah disembarked from the Ark, but few people including me have much use for them.
My daughter-in-law really likes Huckleberries-(in Martinis, I think!) so since they are hard to find I thought maybe I could grow the Sunberries and use them? I guess I'll do it anyway since I ordered seeds!
Any resemblance to a huckleberry is purely visual. They can be made into jams and preserves using lots of sugar.
