Oh, what a pretty picture! We don't have any snow, but it sure is cold here in Daytona Beach. It never got above 46º today and it's supposed to drop to 27º tonight! I've had a nice fire going since early afternoon so it's nice and toasty inside ... where I plan to stay.

We just got 2 feet of snow here in NY. That blizzard was ROUGH. Tropical force winds on top of it. Spent half the day shoveling and snow blowing. I could sure use that fireplace plantladylin!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

yup.. it was strong here... they said it was the 6th biggest snow storm.. @ 20 ".. but it had gusts of 59 mph..and a fine light snow.. so it drifted and penetrated but it did finally stop.. and left the tropical area of the roof..

Nice view Gordon!

Tommy: Most folks laugh when they hear some Floridians have Fireplaces (and actually use them.)

Gordon: Wow, that is a nice view ... and I hope that roof will look tropical again in the not too distant future. Someone told me last week that there will be an early spring ... but I think it was my youngest sister in N. Georgia who got a few inches of that white stuff herself on Christmas day.

Hey Tommy I am im Saugerties got the same amount if not more. Here is what it looks like today.

Hello

pensacolagarden, thanks for starting the new thread. You are the best!!

It has been raining here for couple of days now, nasty and cold with not much gardening getting done. I do not want to be selfish and say that I do not want the snow because my GKs wish for snow everyday, they just love it.
That is a nice, peaceful and quiet looking neighborhood in your picture.

Gordonhawk, your view is perfect no matter what season it is.

plantladylin, your pictures warm my heart, just perfect for a nasty day like today.

This is another stage of the Clerodendron Indicum . After the late summer blooms, it's now going to seed.

I had to use my very old GH this year. It has a hole in the roof but it is in the perfect spot, as it gets all day sun.

I love the snow pictures and it's been so cold here the past couple of nights I'm surprised we don't have some of that white stuff on the ground! We broke a record last night with 24º and it's 32º out right now ... supposed to be another record breaking cold night tonight with a low of 28! Grrrr, this is supposed to be Florida!!!

prita: You've got some beauties in that greenhouse, Love that Abutilon and how cool having tomatoes growing this time of year!

phughes: Looks like you have some nice plants blooming now too ... Beautiful Hibiscus!!

Dave: That Syzygium sure has beautiful flowers!

Well, I have no blooms to share, or even foliage for that matter since all of the plants are huddled together under layers of old blankets and comforters on the deck, but I did take a picture of a pretty little Palm Warbler this afternoon. It was perched in the Crape Myrtle tree waiting it's turn at the feeder:

Nice Lin!

Bird feeders probably get a lot of attention this time of year.

Here's white Camillia.

I have at least a dozen seed and suet feeders and three birdbaths around the yard, so we have lots of regular backyard birds that visit year round. The little Palm Warbler only visits this area in the winter months and they sure love the dehydrated mealworms that I add to the seed mix!

prita, is your Abutlion trailing? it may be this one, Abutilon megapotamicum, http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59666/
I have a small start that is just hanging in there, I brought it in from the greenhouse and put it under the lights, it seems to be perking up.

Not a whole lot blooming right now in the greenhouse, but the leaves on the Maples that are near it are dropping now so it's getting more sun. But night time temps in the greenhouse are running in the low 40's, I just can't afford to keep it much warmer than that.
The snow is pretty but I sure do not miss living in it. It's official, the coldest December on record for FL.

I may be MIA for a bit, as we have had to replace within a months time, the hot water heater, the dryer and the fridge ! Plus with the cold the electric is going to be over the top for both the house and greenhouse, so my DG's membership is up I think Jan 2, and I just can't put anything else on the CC. I know I can still D-mail as I have a few things to send out, just can't post on this forum

phughes,
I didn't know the Ruttya came in pink ! Can't find the pink in the plantfiles. I have the Orange one. Supposed to be hardy to 20º to zone 8a but mine looked so sad after a light frost I dug it up and put it in a pot and took into the greenhouse. Hope it makes it.

I did take a few pics the other day of what little is blooming in the gh, but haven't had time to upload yet.

Martha, contact Trish at DG admin. - they have the Angel fund, which will pay it forward, then when you can pay, you can reimburse the fund. If that doesn't work, dmail me!

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I got the pink at Caldwell's in Richmond TX (near Houston)

scroll to the very bottom and there's a picture and the full name; unfortunately Caldwell's doesn't do mail order.

Well here is a new seedling for me well actually it is an old seedling but has been in a 5 gallon pot for the past 4 years. It is called Brugmansia rosalie x rosalie x peanut #2 I just found the tag that I wrote for it. This summer towards the end on it anyway I put it into this huge pot along with a walking Iris and Purple Mexican Petunia and a cutting of a pothos plant that Rita sent to me. This is the one that I got a cutting of that I am sending to Rita when it is warm enough. If anyone could get this to bloom I believe she can and she has sent me so many things over the past couple of years.

Here is my Bay Laurel plant that I bought with me from Pensacola it is ina 5 gallon pot but this summer it will go into a much larger pot. It is starting to branch out since I got it back some as it was a gift for my friends bf who is a chef. I would like to start one for him could I root it in water or would soil would be better?

Great pictures everyone.

Rita, the Anthurium you posted is another one of my favorites and I think its the same one you sent me this past Spring? Mine has been slow at growing but is doing very well.

mjs, thats too cold for Florida and I sure hope it warms back up for you all. I sent you an email.

Lin, great shot of some birds at a feeder. I feed them here as well but here lately a Hawk has taken up residency and picking them off for breakfast. On Christmas day, one swooped down so fast and hooked a Blue Jay so quick it made my head spin watching that episode. I know they have to eat too but I hate seeing that.

Hello Everyone!!
Phughes, It is soo good to see those beauties, and to have you posting again!! I love the Ruttya as well.

Rj did you see your Clerodendrum posted earlier in the thread? I love to show it off every chance I get.
The original Blue Sage that you gave me, died last winter. This is a cutting from that plant. It is still one of my favorites!!
