Well, let me try it again. I had many females and am wondering it this is a male.

I'm looking at the darkly streaked flanks.

You probably do have some males - they only get the purple colours in their second year. Young males are identical to females. With finches, young birds migrate further in winter than adults, and in Georgia, most or all of the Purple Finches you get will be young birds. The adult males stay further north - they have better experience in finding food in difficult conditions, and by staying further north, can reach the breeding grounds quicker in spring to claim the best territories.

Thanks Resin, I'm disappointed, but I understand.
