2010 First Day of WINTER: what is blooming
lol Mine aren't quite that weird, probably because it is so dry:
sunflower
pomegranate (this particular plant always blooms in the fall - who knows)
snap and sugar peas (normal)
red bud (has been blooming sporadically since Sept when the two large shade trees it lived under were traumatically removed)
cigar plant
false dayflower
blackfoot daisy
four-nerve daisy
pigeon berry
scarlet sage
common nightshade
bulbine
It really has been weird, it was 85 here this afternoon.
well nothing blooming up here in Okie land everything is dormant except some of the spring bulbs are coming up ,usually the first Crocus will bloom in the snow...
I don't have any pictures, but my coneflowers are still blooming as is my mealy blue sage and the May Night Salvia.
I love the zexmenia Sheila.... that's one plant I want for my Texas Native garden..once I get it set up!!! hahaha
I can't believe our weather either!!!! Another cold freeze due this weekend... just like Christmas.. I guess it's got to remain consistent!! HOWEVER this time our furnace won't die on us!! We got it fixed last weekend!! hahaha
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my friends & your families!! God bless,
Cindy
HNY to you too Cindy and others. I am looking forward to spring already.
Not too much blooming here except for some Pansies that I always grow for winter flowers but I can just imagine that they are done in this morning as it is a brisk 13°
I past by a neighbor along I-20 (has a slope that would be great to have..full sun), anyway he has mexican hat already in bloom!
If it's the same one, right there on the corner of 1-20 and Trail Lake, those have been blooming since fall. There are some plain yellow ones that look like Mexican Hats but without the brown center and spots on them.
Really? I guess I haven't noticed them until now, that is the place. Could be they are something else. I put the neighborhood mtg sign out on his corner every month. I gave him a couple plants last year for his agreeing to allow it. I need to gift him some more and see about getting seeds from them and what kind they are.
I pass by there every morning on my way to work. I remember when he started his little slope! He has some nice looking plants on his driveway as well. Have you noticed the big possomhaw holly bush at the house a block or so down the access road? I think of you everytime we drive by there!
No, I haven't seen it. We don't go down that part of the access road too often. We go Bilglade and Grandbury from the house. He said most of the plants had been his Dad's. I guess he died, but didn't ask. I see him out there picking up pecans along the front when they are falling, other than that don't see him out much. I know he had a good stand of horsemint on that mini slope too last year.
Oooh neighborhood sign bribery... good one!
Well, drive down the access road just to the next street. The bush is HUGE and full of beautiful orange berries right now. Maybe you can get a couple of cuttings. It's right on the corner just past the big culvert/drainage area.
Mexican Hat??!! WOW... get me some seeds too willya huh?huh? hahahahaha That happens to be one of the plants I want for my new garden ( hint hint!).. so it's going to be on my "wish list" for the upcoming swap!!! hahahaha
Seeds won't be ready by Spring swap time, but list them on your want list, I bet someone will have a plant or seed they can bring. I got one from Patrob (Patricia) a year or so ago, but scattered the seeds of the few blooms I got. Hopefully they have increased this year.
I have a list Sheila! hahaha... I am also getting seeds ready to swap..as I brought some from my vacation last year, so maybe someone will want them/trade for them.
Keep an eye on the Texas Gardening threads in mid-Feb ....we will get everything set in a few weeks.
I will, thanks Sheila... I am getting my seeds ready!!
