My Christmas present

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Christmas present from my husband. Bought it a Lowes and he put it together. It is cedar and I am hoping it will weather to match the fence. (sort of). I want to plant something that smells good on it. Maybe jasmine?

Pretty cool! Is there something that is pink and fragrant, to tie in with the pink flowers outside the fence? I know there's a pink american wisteria, but that's probably too big for your setting...

(Is that a park behind you?)

Frostweed, that sounds like what I am looking for.

realbirdlady, the pink blooming plant is a camellia. That is a golf course behind my house, seventeenth fairway. There was a creek with trees and natural springs between my yard and the golf course when I bought it ten years ago. The city dredged it out, straightened it out, took down the trees and concreted it in for flood control. I was really upset at the time but it hasn't turned out to be all bad since the landscaping has grown in on both sides and it serves as a barrier to discourage the golfers from coming into my yard.

Very pretty! Merry Christmas!

Wow, bummer to lose the springs, but yeah, it looks fine in your photo. Access was what I was wondering about, if you needed to make the gate uninviting from the back to keep people from just wandering in to sit a spell.

Haven't had anyone wander in yet. Ocassionally have a golfer digging round in the bushes on the outside of the patio fence!

Whatever you decide on, I think I would plant it in the ground and not depend on the flower box attachments for it. Those could be used for an annual perhaps. Very nice thoughtful gift! I am sure you will enjoy it.

lol Are those flower boxes? I was thinking how cool it was that you had little shelf/baskets to stash your garden gloves and shears and neat rocks and seed pods (and golf balls, I guess).

Yes they are but they aren't really big enough to plant anything in. I was thinking the exact same thing! {Great minds!}
