I'll probably stay up to watch most of it.

A lunar eclipse, a full moon and the winter solstice all at the same time.

I know it's a big deal, but I also know there's not way I'd actually get my butt out of the warm bed to see it!

12:05am! getting close! Got the arctic gear ready, tripod and my camera is in the utility room getting used to the cold so the lens doesn't fog up - t'will be just at 32 degrees by the time it starts.

Got some great shots the last time this happened, 2/20/2008.

This pix is from then.

Bummer, I couldn't watch it because the mood was directly overhead. I have positional vertigo and looking up for any length of time is a big nono.

X - so you couldn't lay down on the wet, cold, hard ground??? Well??? ;)

Lol .. actually no, i cannot lie flat on my back only on my side. I cannot look straight down or look up for longer than a second at a time .. some of the rocks in my head are in the labyrinth of my inner ear where they shouldn't be and certain positions move them father in causing severe and utterly debilitating vertigo and nausea coupled with nystagmus. It's called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and utter hell when you're having an attack which can last for days .. people with this kind of vertigo go to great lengths not to have an attack. It makes some aspects of gardening a real challenge.

Sorry to hear that X. I really enjoyed your pictures last time. I am so sorry you didn't get to shoot it this time. It is so frustrating to really want to be able to do something and bad health gets in the way. It's not like you get to take a shot like that very often. Here's to wishing you a New Year with no attacks. Cindy

Thanks .. the double whammy is that it affect both of my ears .. kind of rare to have that happen. I've been living with this for about 10 years now. I haven't had a full blown attack for about 4 years due to stringent, terror induced modified behavior about how I move about in the world. Imagine being so dizzy that you literally run into walls even crawling on your hands and knees. BPPV is insidious in that if you keep your head perfectly still, everything settles down and you feel fine until the bare, slightest movement of your head starts it up again. BPPV people make excellent and accomplished statues. Lol.

I really was disappointed at missing this last eclipse .. i thought about using a mirror but the angle of the mirror was too acute to manage it safely. So I sighed and remembered that my bed with micro fiber plush sheets and an electric blanket turned on to thermo nuclear explosion was waiting for me, then smiled and sighed a happier sigh, and went to bed.
