CLOSED: Hawk?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Look at who stop by to visit the fish pond this morning? I would appreciate an I.D. Many thanks.

It's either a Cooper's Hawk or a Sharp-Shinned. It's hard to tell. Can't see the end of the tail.

I'd go with a Sharpie based on the size as it seems pretty small in scale with the railing.

I'd tentatively say Cooper's, on the basis of the dark-capped head, fairly stout legs (not 'sharp'!) and heavy bill.

What is the width of the wooden rail it is perched on? That should make a fairly accurate size assessment possible.

Resin, the rail width is 5.5 inches said DH. What do I know, I was just mentioned a little while back; I don't know if we've Cooper Hawks here then it showed up to clarify the question. lol

Thanks; it's length looks close to 3 times the width of the rail, which agrees with Cooper's.

Agree with Resin...Cooper's Hawk.

Thanks to both. I'm pleased to have learned more about the various types of Hawks in my area.
