Christmas tree ornaments

Norman, OK

Last year we did a thread on bird Christmas tree ornaments and had a great response. Thought it might be fun again. Our tree is mostly bird ornaments.

I've been thinking of this thread the last few days. Thanks for starting it red!

Love your ornaments!

As soon as we get our tree stuff in I'll post some of mine.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone's ornaments. Please, keep 'em coming.

We will be out of town over the holiday....no tree this year.

Those are beautiful ornaments Red -- very realistic too and nice pictures of them.

I took some pics of ornaments that I didn't think I shared last year. These pics turned out kind of awful, but I'm sharing anyway because I'm trying not to get crazy and take tons of photos of ornaments! Here's just a generic nester.

If it's not a live bird, if you can set up any shot you want, why would you take a butt shot? That is the question that I must ask myself with this photo. Brain must have been turned off. Another generic nester.

This is my giant Snowy Owl. He's like 6".

lol @ the butt shot Elphaba!!

I love seeing all the pretty ornaments. I thought about starting to collect bird ornaments but have never got started. Probably just as well since I get a little OCD about new interest! lol

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I have more but I'll stop here for now with a Peacock and a red bird that I pretend is a cardinal!

LOL Nanny about the OCD -- totally with you on that!

Nice ornaments guys! I see you all like glass or mercury glass as much as I do.

Surely some more folks here have bird ornaments. Yes, Elphaba, the Chinese ornament makers take a little artistic license with North American species. A couple more.

You know, I was SURE i had some. But I guess I was thinking of all the ones I've given my mom over the years.

I'm not decorating a tree so my bulbs are packed away. However, before I had a camera in my hand many hours a day, I made Christmas crafts using regular light bulbs, clay and cloth.

These are my penguins.

These birdhouses are light bulbs that I painted.

Wow duc those are really nice! Your very talented!

Now how cute are those!! Very cool and very talented!

Norman, OK

Neat ornaments, duc. You should display them someplace. The fact that you made them is a good connection to Christmas.

Nice ducs Red.

Duc, very creative! I have all glass ornaments. Some are the inside art ones. Ever tried painting on the inside of the glass? Don't know how you'd get the base of the light bulb off though.

Well, the top string of my x-mas lights went out. I knew it wasn't a bulb b/c there are burned out bulbs on the other strings and they are still lit. Tried changing fuses for the first time in my life. Tried three separate pairs of fuses and still it won't light up. I'm so bummed.

Here is Harry Potter and his snowy owl Hedwig. The lights below are on but the lights above are out. That's why it looks so dark.

Very cute guys!

Hey, thought I'd revive this thread b/c I just came across some great bird ornaments that support a great cause. National Wildlife Federation has a bunch of cool hand-blown glass ornaments of cedar waxwing, painted bunting, woodpeckers, both black-chinned and ruby-throated hummingbirds and more. My fav is the white-breasted nuthatch that hangs like its scooting down the tree trunk.

Couldn't copy just the page, so go to page 46 (it's easier than it sounds.) Here's the website:

Thanks Elphaba! There are a lot of nice ideas for gifts, cards etc. at that site.

Pretty ones! thanks

Pelle, I had to laugh at myself when I read your post. Handblown glass ornaments are one of my obsessions and so are birds. When you combine 2 of my obsessions, I get tunnel vision! There are other great things in that catalogue for birders and gardeners! Thanks for the note and the laugh.

Charlie Harper is my all time favorite artist, his renderings of the natural world and birds in particular are amazing. Here is a link to a website selling some Harper Tree Ornaments.
