There will occasionally be bugs of various species spawning in the stuff I compost. Generally these things will be found in apples. Is it okay to vermicompost these? Will they potentially breed and end up competing with the worms, or will they be starved out and/or eaten by the worms?
Okay to add bug larvae to vermicomposting bin?
I think I would try get rid of the bugs. No need to breed more flies! I have heard that Diatomaceous earth works great to rid the bugs in the bin. The worms eat it like it is food and they remain alive and healthy. I have a empty Red Vine container that I put the composting food in and put the top on. No bugs make it in.
