Is the CORAL or RED HONEYSUCKLE VINE invasive in zone 8b TX?

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

I am researching a vine to replace my roses on my huge arbor (you can see the arbor in the picture - I have three colums to train the vine up). I just removed the big climber roses because of "Rose Rosette" disease.
Does anybody have experience with the "Coral or Red-honeysuckle" vine?

Is it invasive?
Does it sucker?

Any suggestion will be appreciated

Coral Honeysuckle is beautiful and almost evergreen it also blooms on and off through the spring and summer, not prone to suckers, all in all a beautiful vine.
I think it tends to be a little more shrubby than Crossvine, but they are both wonderful.

I have personally had better luck getting crossvine to fill in and look good year round, compared to coral honeysuckle. Has anyone else had this experience?

Thanks Frostweed.
My goal is to train the vine up to the arbor. I'd like to have a vine that has a trunk and most of the branches need to be on top of the arbor.

If that is the case, I think Crossvine would probably work better.

I am originally from Irving, 32 years over on the old south side..I always had coral honeysuckle growing up my fence and arched gate......loved it then and dug some and moved it with me when I came north into Oklahoma..still loving it....it is beautiful mixed in with the Peace climbing rose. It stays green and doesn't die back unless we just have a freaky, unusually extreme winter. Record lows and snows here last year, it did not faze it.

Bellaire, TX

Coral Honeysuckle is really beautiful and makes a nice plant without being overwhelming. That said, the original species plant that I grew in Bellaire (zone 9B) was killed outright by a hard freeze. I was floored because it was native and, while I expected it to be cut back, I didn't expect it to die. Because I loved the plant, I searched for a hardier version.

I've had the cultivar 'Alabama Crimson' in the ground since 2003. It's much prettier, blooms more often, and produces more flowers than the species. It has not died despite a very hard winter. Last spring I did have to cut it back to live growth, but it rebounded quickly. I ordered this cultivar from Wayside Gardens, but am no longer sure Wayside still sells this particular cultivar.

I have it in zone seven and haven't had any problems at all with it .As long as it has something to grow up on , it won't crawl along the ground. Had it for 18 years now .

Thanks y'all for a great help.
I have decided to plant three CROSSVINES. One for each column. I have choose three different varieties.
Wish me luck !
Still sad about my roses thought !

Roses have thorns . I do have one a departed friend gave me . If it wasn't for him , I wouldn't care if it joined him . I know , that is tacky, but he would understand , God love him . digger
