CLOSED: Hoping I have a male Purple Finch, but its probably an HOFIN

Earlier I snapped my first ever female Purple Finch. I'm hoping I have a male here, but I fear it is just another 'ole house Finch.

Is it?

Yep, House Finch. Note the brown streaks on the flanks; on a male Purple, these streaks are pinkish-purple, same colour as the breast; also the red 'eyebrow', whereas Purple has a more uniformly pinky-purple head.

Bill shape is also useful, though not easy to see at the angle in this photo.

Thanks for nothing Resin. :-)

I'd think your chances of an adult male Purple Finch are very low, so far south - young birds usually migrate further than old birds, and females usually migrate further than males. So if you get a male, it'll be a young one, and they're the same colour as females. Sorry!
