I have heard that there is a variety of Trumpet vine that is not invasive for the TX area.
Today I am removing 3 huge climber rose plants that have been attached by "rose rosette" disease.
I was thinking to substitute them with the Trumpet vine, but I have seen a variety that grow and sucker like crazy.
Please let me know if you know a variety that is not invasive or if you have any suggestion.
TRUMPET VINE not invasive for TX
Yellow Trumpet Vine, Yellow Trumpet Creeper
Campsis radicans 'Flava' is reported not to be invasive.
The kind I have is like the Enterprise on STAR TREK it goes places I have never been.
I think Crossvine, Bignonia capreolata is a well behave trumpet type vine. http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=BICA
I vote for Crossvine, it is evergreen, doesn't sucker, no insect pests or disease and is an all around super plant.
Does this Crossvine goes up by itself?
or do you need to train it?
It can attach itself, but it helps if you lead it in the right direction.
do you have it in the sun or shade?
If this vine is doing good at your house it will be good at my house too, since we are so close.
Did you buy it locally?
It's pretty common in nurseries and I vote for crossvine too. I hate trumpet vines...they are very difficult to dislodge once they spread and take hold of an area.

Yes, here in Arlington, it is beautiful and never freezes, I just love it.
Podrandea ricasoliana
Tried to attach link fr Plant Files. Couldn't get it to come over here but the 2 negatives have to do with location. In Katy, it dies back & blooms all summer in Tx. Grows well in Tx heat. With a little pruning, it should fill your space.
Delicate baby pink flowers actually have burgandy vines!!! Pretty!!!
We refer to it as Dessert Trumpet down here.
:~)
Are you sure thats the correct name or spelling for the genus? I did a google search and nothing came up under that species or even that genus. The plant sounds nice but its hard to tell much about it if there is no information.

Thanks Smockette. I don't think I can have the Dessert Trumpet vine. I am in zone 8b. In base of my researches this vine (coming from South Africa) trive in zone 9 and 10 !!
By my experience there is no plant that come from South Africa that will make it in my garden.
I way I was in Pretoria last year around this time and WOW !!!
If you ever want to be in garden Paradise go to South Africa during their spring time (which is now)
Keep coming with suggestions for my arbor !!
I have the yellow trumpet vine on a fence, it has grown verrrry slowly and beautifully. I would not have any trumpet vine in an area where it can reach a roof. It will creep up under your shingles or siding and dislodge it. I have wanted a start to a pink I have seen, but not seen it for sale here.
