I am looking for some eggs to hatch this spring. I saw my first Moderns this Fall and I absolutely think they are adorable. I also want to hatch a few for my Grand-Daughter.
Does anyone raise Modern Game?
They are not great layers and I'm afraid they eggs will ship like seramas, not good...Hay
If you get the GA market bulletin, there are usually listings for game chickens. Not sure if they are modern or not. I think you can see the adds on line. www.agr.georgia.gov.
Awwwwww, thanks Haystack! Arent they just the sweetest things!! I was afraid that they might be delicate, just hoped since they were games that they might be a little bit hardier than my precious Seramas. I love your photos, Sweet chickies and handsome Papa!
beclu727, Thank you very much for the reminder! I check it once in a while but so far no Moderns! Im finding that most people who have them only have a pair or two and keep them only for the novelty or pets, no one actually raises them! Im going to have to search them out!
Try asking at the Atlanta Pet Chicken meetup group. http://www.meetup.com/chickens/ I was able to rehome roosters thru them. They aren't just from Atlanta.
The eggs ship a little better than Serama... especially if you can let them free range on some grass for a month or so.. They are easier to hatch than Serama.
They are so friendly and crazy birds.. I love Modern Game!
Remember Superman?
He got a fantastic home, and is master of his domain and is a big time daddy now.
Great Picture ZZs, I loved superman...I love my gamebirds but I have not had near as good hatch results as with my seramas, nor have they ever laid near as well. I have never shipped them but they are exactly the same size eggs as the seramas so I am not sure I understand why they would ship any better. The Serama eggs as far as I'm concerned is a waste of money. I have shipped at least five doz serama eggs with only one hatch that never survived, and yes I know the eggs were fertile...Thats just my take on it. However Eufaula if you want to try it I can ship you some game hen eggs, and yes even a few serama eggs, like maybe six, and six. You'd only have to pay for shipping...which is around eighteen bucks...Hay P.S. and none of my eggs were broken upon arrival...
ZZ I remember this picture,I had never seen one before and laughed at the long legs,I love it when peaple post pictures of the differant breeds.
OOOHHHH oooooooh yes please!!! Hay its too cold to send them now isnt it?? I will be Happy to wait until warmer weather iif you think it would be better!! Im willing to take a risk whenever you think it best!
My hens, the two I have are laying now, so let me gather some eggs and look at the weather. They are packed in shavings and bubble wrap so I tend to think they can be kept reasonable warm unless the weather is exceptionally cold. I'll look at the whole situation when I get enough eggs and then let you know what I have decided...If I think it's too cold then we shall wait til middle of March...I just don't want you to get your hopes to high and then be let down as I can make no guarantees. I'll pay for half of the shipping so it will only cost you a total of ten bucks, then if it's successful we can both celebrate...Hay
