Texas Native Plant question

Cleburne, TX(Zone 8a)

I gathered some Goldenrod yesterday. I cannot identify anything that looks like a seed. Maybe the wind has caused the seed to drop out already ??

PlantFiles says can be propagated "By dividing rhizomes, tubers, corms or bulbs (including offsets)." My question is: How and when?

I apologize ahead of time for asking what will probably be a lot of very elementary questions to most of you.

LOL, I had the same question. I'm glad you ask, I will be awaiting an answer.

The fluff that forms after the blooms is the seed. It is difficult to get seed of this type to germinate because it is so fine.
First prepare a pot with fine soil and water it well, then take the fluff and spread it thickly on the soil.
Pat it down very well with your hand, or I like to use the bottom of another pot of the same size, the point is to get the fluff to make contact with the moist soil. Very carefully with a very fine spray like from a misting bottle get the fluff wet and (do not put soil on it).
Set the pot on a dish with water in it to keep the soil moist and once a day mist the top, it should germinate in two or three weeks. Do not let the top get dry.
This method works for all kinds of fluffy seeds such as Aster, Golden groundsel and many others.

Goldenrod is very easy to transplant, it can be done now up till spring, just dig up some with enough roots and plant where you want it, and of course keep it moist until it gets established.
Josephine.

Thanks, Josephine.

Almost all of it has turned to "fluff" but then I noticed one small grouping apart from the rest that foliage is still very green and blooms still yellow and much shorter than the other. This is in a totally wild area, so wonder if it is actually a different kind.

I'm noticing so many things that I've been driving by for 30 years and didn't even think about. LOL.

I put the fluff in a pot of regular potting soil, covered with a light layer of soil and keeped it moist. I don't know what percentage of germination I had since I have no idea how many seeds were actually there, but the pots were full of seedlings.

It could be a different kind Glenna, but bloom time could be influenced by many different factors.
I am glad you are noticing more things, it opens up your eyes, doesn't it?

My various seeds that I am sharing aren't without some chaff, etc. I can't see them well enough to separate, but I am sharing a lot so that you will have plenty seeds.
