Super Alocasia "Sarian"

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

This awesome specimen is at the same place as the huge Stingray in my other thread. I had a good chat with the lady owner to find out what she did to make these plants so impressive.

Tremendous growing from a non Aroid enthusiast.

Is the yellow typicalfor that variety? Very nice!

What did she say she did to make them so big and healthy?

All I could find out from her was that she used black garden soil and Dynamite fertilizer. I use Nutricote (the professional version of Dynamite) and my plants grow large, too. I just have to hold them back because I don't have enough space for giant specimens of every species and hybrid I have!! Now, though, I wonder what the cold weather has done to her wonderful plants. I warned her about that possibility and, understandably, she didn't really want to hear about it. I'm sad to think how horribly damaged they must be by now, after not one, or two, but three cold/freeze events!

any idea how old that speciman is?

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

I can only guess at this point, but I've grown specimens similar to that size within two years. Knowing how sensitive Sarians are to cold weather, I'd think she grew hers in a year. The severe cold events we had in January 2010 would have flattened that plant completely.
