Who is the wiseguy or gal sending that cold weather way down here to me????? I wake up weehours of the morning and I always check on the weather to see what I need wear-shorts or pants..WELL..It is COLD!..I never know from day to day about this time of the year..hot or cold AND also cold and hot on the same day..my poor AC unit doesnt know either whether to cool or stay off..LOLOLOL...I am heading out to Walmart this morning to get few items and plus go to the fabric store..I have to make a wedding cloak and a new plastic covering for my patio doors.. using the clear plastic this time so I can see out alittle better than white plastic..lol...

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I wish I was going with you today, I need a plastic mat to cut my fabric on. I now have picked out the pattern for my quilt and it takes three colors of fabric so I went by Joan Cooks and she took me to a fabric store in Tyler and I got some cobalt blue colored. What does quilting have to do with the poultry and livestock forum, I'm using a peacock feather pattern.

Yesterday morning it was 72 degrees and had a 94% humidity, then the front blew in and boy did it blow. It was suppose to be 31 this morning but it only got down to 37, yea!!! I can bring in more plants. It was raining by the we left and was raining when we got back and is misting now, we can really use the rain.

This is basically scratch grains, whole oats, corn grits, oatmeal, powder milk and water. You can add black oil sunflowers and chopped peanuts..Baked them in oven for about 20 mins..lol..I use small to large loaf bread pans for the block style. I just dropped 2 large spoonful of the dough on parchpaper cuz I don't want anything sticking period...lol..
On these snacks have powdered red pepper for my hen's jump starting the egg dept OR you keep your birds warm in the above pic. Powdered Red Pepper acts just like corn do..keeps the birds body warmed for the winter. It doesnt affect the eating of the eggs..

Cool! Thanks, I'm shopping today, and the birdies will benefit. Have to be careful that the dogs don't think this is for them, don't think they'd appreciate the pepper *g*.

We have been having the Ups and downs in Temps here too! Last night was the coldest so far in the low 30's, icy frost on the ground and a thin sheet of ice yesterday and this morning over the waterers. Right now it is starting to get windy and slooooowly warming...we know here in the south that means only one thing... more rain! Then the Co-o-o-old will come back with a vengence. Im with you Kenboy , cold is cold and rain is okay but the two together is just not a good thing!
My Drama for the week is that I finally had to turn my central heat on........uh ..... tried to turn it on rather! It seems that after not being in use all summer and Fall, i had no idea that the heating element or coil or whatever the thing-ama-jig is called is burnt out! Soooo I have no heat! I now have to resort to using an electric heater, toting it from room to room, until I can go and buy another one for the bedroom! Ding Bobbit!!! Calling the repairman and hoping he can accept partial payment today!
It seems I am forever having to spend money that I dont have or money put aside for something like Christmas. month before last it was 4 tires for my truck,( you can go around on bald tires for just so long), then last month , wouldnt you know it I had a nail in one of my brand new tires and ffound out that the Spare was no good! So new tire and a spare! LOL! You have to laugh to keep from crying sometimes!
Okay I'll stop Whining now...back to Chicken business!

Eufaula, I feel for you. We had to have our heat pump replaced last spring. And he replaced the inside unit too. Found the electrical part inside had been gone for awhile and it was using the emergency heat coil only to heat the whole house! Might as well have had electric heaters going full blast in every room. No wonder our bill was so high! And we felt cold all the time. Those things need some kind of indicator on them to say "hey I need replaced" or something...

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oh I don't even want to think about having to replace the central heat. Would probably be a expensive nightmare.

Have you ever heard of Auqa Therm??? me neither!!
Cost me a 100 buck for repair man to come out and laugh at me!!!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrr
It seems Aqua Therm heats from your Hot Water Heater. I also found out real quick if you leave you propane Hot Water Heater on it sucks up 150 gallons in 2 months. Quite an expensive lesson for propane & Repair man. So we only turn it on at night for a little while for baths and Dishes. You probably can't even find a Hot Water Heater with water lines coming out of the top any more.

I thought Propane was supposed to be cheaper and more energy efficient than Electric?? I only saved 50 a month on my Electric Bill when I started flipping the breaker on it at the old place.

Bridgewater, ME

It really does save if you can remember to turn your electric hot water off,If I turned mine off at 10am and then back on when I get up the next morning around 6:30am I save about 20.00 dollars a month and I have plenty of hot water, but if you had a big family you would have to figure out when you use the most hot water and go from there,I turn mine off in the electrical box in my bedroom.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

that's what I did. Flip the breaker
