A great way to dress up Elephant ears

cullman, AL(Zone 7b)

I bring my ears in the house for the winter, some i store bare root in the basement but the best looking few get to stay in the livingroom for the winter.. This year i added a few fake flowers to dress it up.. Its funny when someone comes over and thinks thats just the plant..

I love birds of paradise but i cant grow them here.. i dont have enough light in my house to winter them.. But this way i get the best of both worlds... Yes its cheating but sometimes cheating is good :)

My BOP usually blooms every year. Didn't get any in the summer, but I can get a couple in the winter when it is in the g'house. One summer I had 4 blooms. I felt SO lucky!

I bought the plant.......actually it was a "few" plants in one pot. It was August, end of season sale, and this pot of BOP looked *tough*, to put it mildly. It was priced at $5.00. I figured, I have a greenhouse, it can either live or die. It lived. I have the whole mess in a 16 inch pot and it either needs to be divided or put in a 20 inch pot. Short of using an ax, I really don't know how to divide it. And it probably wouldn't bloom either until it got "situated". So, I may just repot bigger. It's probably about 5 feet tall. I've had it about 5 or 6 years.......can't remember just when I got it. I'll have to see if I can find a pic......
