Visitors during a power outage

(Ang) Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

Many residents where I live having hummingbird feeders but only a handful have theirs in direct sun. Some used their last bit of hot water to thaw the feeders while some couldn't do much of anything. I discovered a perk of letting it naturally thaw in direct sun - many will visit to check and even wait in the sun on the railing. For the first time ever I had up to 4 and they weren't trying to kill each other. Unfortunately I didn't think to get my camera until later.

This photo was taken after sitting in a chair (in FULL sun) for an HOUR lol.

Glad you figured out what was best for you and your birds.

I had fun taking these photos because I got to sit in the sun by the patio door. This one was taken through the sliding glass door, which really needs to be cleaned lol.

I'll be making fresh nectar today now that the power is back.

I have four feeders that I exchange every hour or so when it is below freezing. Two out and two in. Today it was 5+ so I will only take them in over night. then back out by 7am, where the little Hummers are waiting for their breakfast
