Can anyone help me to determine if I have all roos or is there a slim chance I have one hen? I am pretty sure the black and grey on is a roo but the buff colored one I am not sure of. The black one the other morning was making this honking like crow. But did not do it again this morning. If I have all roos is this going to be a problem, will they all get along. Here are several pics I took this morning. I got the black and grey from the same litter? At about 3 weeks of age the buff is from a different litter? At about 6 weeks of age. This was about late summer end of July first of august.
Thanks Lori
I am tired of waiting
Hi Lori! Welcome to the poultry forum.. I haven't "met" you yet, but am glad to see your post... (my favorite is guessing gender) but NOT with Silkies!
I am not good with silkies.. but I'd say from what Catsy taught me, that black one is the roo. She says the ones with "slicked back" hairdoos are roos... the ones with big puffy hairdoos are pullets.. along with the usual comb and wattles observations..
The buff looks pullet to me..
The wattles on that grey one make me think roo..
If you look at the hairdoos where they are all together.. see how the buff is the only one that looks puffy and the other two look blown back?
It might be a little hard on the only girl with 2 roos when they get older..
The obvious fix: more chicks!
I agree that the black and gray are rooster, see my roosters the one in front and the one in the back? They have that swept back hair do,I took the middle one out I think it is a she.And yes two roosters and one pullit is to hard on her.It is hard to tell with silkies but mine are crowing they were born in July I think,I love silkies!WELCOME TO THE FORUM
Thanks for all your advice. I really do think these guys are sooo cute. They are somewhat tame. If they are in their pen I can pick them up really easy if they are out in the yard I can get really close but when I try to pick them up they run and they can run fast they are so funny. I live in the city and will need to find 2 of them new homes if they all end up being roosters. What if they are all roosters would they get along with each other? They may be too noisy. This is my first experience with chickens. I originally bought them to eat the grasshoppers and crickets and any other bug but it seems they like my plants more. Thanks for your warm welcome.
Lori I know nothing about silkies, except to say I think your silkies are beautiful and I love the arrangement of colors. As ZZs and Green has said also, a big welcome to the forum and I think these Ladies are excellent in their knowledge...Have fun... Haystack.
I would think that if there was no girls around that the roosters would get along ok but not sure of that

Green, your right on, for the most part it's alway's the girls that are the cause of the comotion...LOL. I have eight roosters that do very well together as long as there are no girls around...NO Seriously...Hay
I had 3 roo and 2 hens and it was hard on them. Then one went broody. I was desperate to find some hens. It didn't take the other hen long to figure out she better go broody too. The boys would grab them when they came off the nest to eat. So I started putting them out and close the pen so they couldn't go back in to give them some relief for a few hours. So my Randy Roo's started trying to diddle each other ROFL. My girls kept their backs to them with faces buried in the corner while on the nest. I finally found 2 ugly little gray poults so now it is 4 hens to 3 roos. much better odds
Yes Donna, UGLY will do it every time...What a HOOT you are...Hay
Hey there Lori!! Welcome ! I just got more Silkies this week and Havent decided who is who yet either!
Ah haaaaaa! So... if the topknot is slicked back its a Roo...huh? Well it looks as if I might have 2 and 2 then!
