I received some rooted wandering jew cuttings from a lovely lady on here and I have three questions. What kind of soil should I use, is it ok if it received direct morning sun through a patio window and what kind of pot should I use? Right now I'm using all purpose black gold and a terracotta pot.
Wandering Jew
There are several plants known as "wandering jew"; but you're probably referring to Tradescantia. Again there are several varieties of Tradescantia; but they all need similar treatment. They're easy and robust plants. They're trailing plants, and the pot is best sited where they are free to trail. Pinch out the growing tips so that they become more bushy. If yours are one of the variegated varieties remove any all green shoots as soon as they appear. Any good proprietary fertiliser will do. They like plenty of light and shouldn't mind direct sunlight. Water well in the growing season, but sparingly in winter. They don't like dry air, so mist occasionally in summer.
Thank you for replying! I believe I have Tradescantia zebrina (spelling right?) and it's in a hanging basket by the patio door. The location keeps it safe from any nibbles from felines and it gets morning to early afternoon sun where it is. I'm going to look for a pot slightly bigger and not made of terracotta.
Any suggestion for soil?
I've never had a lot of luck growing Tradescantia zebrina in containers but it grows as a landscape plant and does well in bright shade here in Florida. Here are two links with information for T. zebrina:
