Green and Blue Eggs For Olive and Easter Eggers

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

So I haven't said anything about what I was going to get next as the Auction I had been bidding on only just finished. It was a long one for 6 days and I was on pins and needles waiting for the time to be up. Its up now and mine, mine, mine :-))

It was for 8+ olive and blue eggs. So olive egg layers and plain easter eggers looking mixed. But now that its done the seller said she would collect all weekend for me if I wanted and send about 16 eggs on Monday. Woo-hoo and extra hurrays :-))

I have seen pictures and these olive eggs are different from the ones in my first hatch. I guess I will see for sure after they get here. But all bred back to the Black Copper Marens Rooster. Of course I will be taking pictures and will post them.

So since the daddy is BCM they can be pea combed (olive egger) or straight comb (brown eggs). Thats the way it goes with olive eggers.

You Sneaky Devil you!! but I had a suspicion you had gone a 'auctionin' agin!!!!! Okay I am not saying good luck or crossing my fingers this time! Im not going to jinx anything!! Im just gonna say... we will see what we see!!! So in about 25 days we should have the answer!!!

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

You know I have a difficult time not just buying everything in site LOL! I wasn't really planning on a 16 egg auction as it was only listed as 8. But I will be glad to get the extras as I most likely will have a batch of no hatches. Should increase the odds of getting what I really want which is muffed and bearded pea comb girls LOL!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

i love getting more eggs than what I won. helps increase the chances of a good hatch

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I will not buy eggs on line I WILL NOT BUY EGGS ON LINE... I keep telling myself and so far it has worked.. I will wait for my girls and boys to make me some and incubate them.... new chicks for Easter is my goal... LOLOLOL....

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

But the only way to get something new that you don't already have is to buy eggs for hatching. Plus if the hatch is not lots of chicks it just means it's a good excuse for buying another batch of eggs. But I was thrilled when the eggs for this auction were doubled.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

OooooooOOOOOH Miss Jstr I know how you feel!! But I broke down and bidded and wound up with Three Frizzle Chicks.Out of 10 eggs.... One that Frizzled and two that carry the Gene..... they each wound up being worth about $12.00 each. I figured I would have to pay at least that amount for them as grown Chickens...so it evened out!
I live close to a lot of online Chicken Lovers , we all belong to another group " the Atlanta/conyers East side Chicken Meetup" . We all raise different breeds of Chickens. So If I can just hang on I can wait until Spring and buy or trade for new Eggies .......But it is sooooo hard to wait! Especially everytime I walk by my Empty incu!!!! Geeeeeez what is with us grown women and incubating.... You think it could possibly be another type of " Empty nest Syndrome"...............!

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

LOL Eufaula... Ok I may understand about women, but what about Hay??LOL (Could not resist)

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Oh my Heavens... Haystack is our exception to the rule.. with a Heart as big as his ... He definitely has his Needed Feminine Side!! You know a real man always admits to having one!!

I was thinking this morning that I hoped the eggs came today so they wouldn't have to sit around over Thanksgiving. They did :-)) Arrived very early afternoon and I just had to unpack them right away because I really wanted to see them :-))

They are just gorgeous. The three olive ones are really a gorgeous color. The easter egger ones are really nice, not pale like easter eggers can be. Now the ones from the eaaster egger colored ones should be olive on the chicks born. The ones from the already olive eggs should be a really deep color.

Here are the eggs inside on the kitchen counter.

Oliver Eggers are on my wish list. Hope you have a good hatch

I am amazed at the difference in color and color tones from this batch of olive eggs and my first. I DID know it would be so from the pictures I had seen of the eggs but it still stuck in my mind.

Eggs are in the incubator so the countdown begins.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Yay! Wiggle wiggle! OOOOhhhhh! Just like getting to open an early Christmas gift!!!

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Time seems to have gone by quickly. Tomorrow will be lockdown. I haven't tried candeling during various times as I don't do well with candeling dark eggs. But I did tonight and all of them look good. There are none clear or that look like quitters. So tomorrow I will be moving them all into the Brower.

Meanwhile all the other chicks have gotton so big and just keep growing like weeds.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Keep us informed Rita!!

(Zone 5b)

I missed so much! Woooohooo, lockdown!! Cant' wait to hear the results!!

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Three little ones already completely hatched when I got up this morning. Another egg has a very large pip. Thats were it seems to be for now.

The three really dark olive eggs are still there so those haven't hatched as yet.

Usually I hatch upright in egg cartons (cut down some) but this time I had 16 eggs in the Brower and as I had never had so many before the cartons don't fit well as I would need more than usual. So for the first time I just laid them down on their sides to hatch.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

ooooh Oooh Oooh...when can we see????

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Six little ones so far. Of course they are all stilll in the incubator. They all look really dark so I am wondering if they are all going to be black.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

we want pics please

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

No pictures until later when they all come out of the incubator. Many eggs still left to hatch and I am not ready to open the incubator as yet.

(Zone 6b)

Ok, we'll wait. :)

If olive eggers are anything like Ameraucanas they may change colors several times before they develop their final feathering.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Olive Eggers are just fancy Easter Eggers. Fancy in that the egg colors are deeper and darker. But since they usually use a Black Copper Marans or a Welsummer maybe that has something to do with it. Mine all have a Black Copper Marans daddy.

My first batch of Olive Eggers I did not get any chicks with muffs or beards. Its hard to really tell as they are still not all dry and I have to see them thru the clear plastic top but I did see one with an obvious puffy face. Probably more in there. I hope they all are.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Oh gosh. I moved 12 out into the brooder. Needless to say I never had so many chicks at once. Of the four remaining eggs I was able to see that one was a quitter, one no development, two pipped chicks that died before they could hatch for some reason. . So no more eggs to hatch. But really 12 out of 16 is very good I think

All the babies are really dark although some do have grey on them. I will take pictures tomorrow, I can't get to it today.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Oooh Babies Babies babies! Congrats Oh Queen of the Olive Eggers!!

Richmond, TX

12 out of 16 is fantastic. Congratulations!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

That is a great hatch! Congratulations! I bet they are up and around really fast.. Sounds like whoever you got the eggs from were taking real good care of their flock. I'm happy for you.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

They are running around peeping and drinking and eating. No weak chicks this time, all look great.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

That is great news! Can't wait to see pics.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

wonderful news Rita. Hate it when chicks die

(Zone 5b)

Congratulations, Rita, what a great hatch! Looking forward to pictures!
