Someone sent me a start of this plant, labeled "bromeliad achemia"Lucky Stripe" earlier this year and so far I haven't killed it. I have another start of a plan green one from another source,I was told to mount on drift wood but I'm busy killing that one.

I don't know what I'm doing!
Take a picture of the sick one. i am no specialist buy I do collect Brom's....about 10 diffferent ones. Maybe we can do a trade when you are ready and your plants have grown. The varigated one above is one I don't have.
That does look like Lucky Stripes but the influorescence is rather smallish and more white than what I am used to.
While Bromeliads are epiphytes (growing on trees, etc. and using roots only for support) most indoor growers do better with them in pots. Just don't pot too deeply. They readily adapt to pot culture and produce regular root systems.

well,I went off for Thanksgiving week and the hub's darn near killed the one I have on drift wood by not watering it. It looks horribley sad andI hope I can save it. I gave it a good soak in the bath tub yesterday and the runners still look green on the tips.
The Lucky Stripe flowers are a very lovelt shade of lavender. My camera is justa cheapy and doesn't always take good pictures....especially close up/
