I also made these cookies for my mother's 25th wedding anniversary....they were gone in 15 minutes. A little trouble but well worth the effort.
Whirl-a-Ways
1 C. Butter (softened)
1 C. Powdered Sugar
1 ½ C. Flour
1 C. Rolled Oats (Quaker Old Fashion Oatmeal)
1 t. Almond Extract
1 t. Butter Flavoring
¼ C. Finely chopped Pecans
In large bowl, combine butter, sugar, and butter and almond flavorings: mix well.
Lightly spoon flour into measuring Cups: level off. Blend in flour, pecans and oats.
Divide dough in half on two sheets of waxed paper: shape each half into and 8 inch long 1 ½ inch diameter rolls. Seal ends with waxed paper and refrigerate for 3 hours or over night.
Preheat oven to 325*.
Cut dough into 3/8-inch slices and place on cookie sheet 1-inch apart.
Bake approximately 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are set and very light brown.
Cool completely and dust with powdered sugar, store in airtight container.
36 cookies.
