I am soooo afraid and nervous for my plumerias!!!

Virginia Beach, VA

I have around 40 plumeria plants and I always bring them in before it gets cold and all my tropical occupies the sun room. It had been high 50's and low 60's here but I can n bot bring them yet till after the 20th because we are having a party for 30 people. The sun room will be set up for beverages.

Do you think I am going to lose them? I have 9 more days and hope the temperature will stay 50-60.

Need reassuring experience. Thank you. Belle

From my own experience; plumerias are tough, unless if you have a prolonged frost (temp. below 32F. degree for more than 24 hours) that will affect them. A brief frost for a few hours, will just send them to dormancy (asleep). Once moved indoor, they will revive. Best of luck, and enjoy your party.

Most of mine are tucked in nicely in the gh. Though, I've one left outdoor that has braced through several mild frosty mornings out side currently. Your zone will dictate how cold it will get, are you in 7a? Or B?

lily-love,
I thank you for your response. I am counting days before we could bring them in. We are 7_B and had not tried to leave any plum outside. Is your greenhouse heated? Belle

The so called greenhouse is actually our basement. Although, it's not heated perse, but the insulation of the surrounding keep it in the 50F. during the coldest part of winter while the house is being kept around 70F degrees for our comfort. I do keep 2 fans on 24/7 for the plants transpiration.

It is in the 60's today so I am very relax. DH promised that as soon as the party is over he will help me.

We had a basement when we lived in New England and I loved it because it was cool during summer and the heat from the furnace kept it warm during winter.

We did have a dehumidifier on during summer.

Well the party went well and the sun room will be the house of all my tropical. i have someone to help me bring them in on Friday and so the stress will not be overwhelming.

I already removed all the leaves of all the plummies as per advise from Dutch lady 2 years ago and and it worked very well as far as bugs during winter.

My banana and EE collections will go to the garage. Belle

Bellieg, I was waiting for my plumie leave to dry up and drop off, should I just take them off right away? I was afraid the sap would bleed out and the stems would dry up

I cut all of the leaves outside before bringing them in and I was surprised that there was no sap. I have over 40 pots and the tall ones are in deep large rubber maid containers with out the pots to make more room. I will take pictures. I have to admit I did not do it, I hired someone to because all the drip pans has to get cleaned too and DH will freak out if they are dirty!!!. LOL!!!

I also have enough room for my banana collections and other tropical that normally go to the garage but somehow there are more junks in the garage this year.

I am now stress free!!! LOL!!!
