Humbled:

Ferndale, WA

Just about an hour ago I came in to check my emails, and see what was going on with the DG Family. I just happened to look at the top of the page to see that I had a dmail, when I read it I found out another member had paid for a one year subscription for me. I can't express quite how I felt. I'm not good with words and found myself stuttering. I still feel totally inadequate in how to express my profound appreciation. I will probably never know who did this, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope that my time spent here will be worthy of your expression of kindness. In humble gratitued...Haystack

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

How cool Haystack, that happened to me last year and I tell you I was in tears... Karma has a way of showing you how you have touched other people with your wisdom and friendship.. I know that to be true Mr Haystack, for Billy and I have a friend for life... Thank you to Mr Haystacks silent friend as well...

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

happened for me too after Katrina when my membership was due with me being homeless and no computer except when I went to library. There are truly wonderful caring people here

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

So strange you'd post this! I'm still wondering what's goin on.. I took the survey to win a year's subscription, (that I really needed) and this morning I have a message that an order was placed!
Either way, I'm a winner.. I am very thankful and am sooo glad, cause I wouln't have told anyone...
To whoever did it... You totally made my day and my year!. You just gave me so much more than a subscription. Someone gave me a heart that is just overflowing this morning.. and I so so so appreciate it. You gave me a feeling that just can't be described.

Even if it's just that I got it for taking the survey. Dear God, Thank you. You knew how much this means to me. Your timing is right on, once again. I love you.

All the people on this forum are family, we can see and feel it by things that are said and done here,I thank God for each and everyone of you.

Ferndale, WA

Miss Jester (Karma)mmmm!!! I didn't know Karma had a first and last name. People with hearts of Gold,,,Yeah I can believe that...LOL...Hay

Ferndale, WA

Thank you Green: I feel truly the same way. God has been so good to us, especially in those he has surrounded our lives with. Whats funny is I know we don't all believe in the salvation of Christ, and yet I believe firmly he has chosen to put us together and I thank Him for it...Hay

Isnt that wonderful! I have to say that has happened for me two years in a row. Im finding out that this site has made so many people into family. There is no doubt that most here are some of the kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Its a way of making sure that we never lose each other!

Well from the Land down Under thankyou too ...some dear person did that for me when I first started too.
It opened up such a world of Info and friends from everywhere ...I tried hard to live up to their gift and hope I have.
I now breed Brugmansia here a thing that was practically unknown in Australia ...I soaked information like a sponge and we now have brug choices .
Many thanks to the gift giver back then ...and many thanks to all the wonderful gardeners who share their knowledge and experience with us all.

Ferndale, WA

Hi Chrissy, and welcome to the forum. My very best male friend is a chap from down under. He is like a brother to my even while he is thirty years younger. DG is surely a wonderful place for gardeners from all over the place...Haystack

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Chrissy!!! Hello and welcome!! I remember when you started brugs!! So good to hear from you. :) I visit the brug forum a little now and then, but since I started chickens, I'm hooked as bad as I was with brugs! I've seen some of your beauties and WOW how you've grown into a major brug Queen! :)

Well, it must have been you Haystack.. and I am very grateful, not only for the gift of membership, but the message it sends me.. it gives me tears every time I think of it. I am so blessed and feel like a star when you're around! Everyone needs to be needed.. Everyone needs to be wanted.... it's a wonderful feeling, and I thank you dearly.

Really, I thank you all. I have felt so special today. Thank you

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Soooo it wasn't Haystack? Wow.. I don't know what to say other than thank you dearly. The message it sends me is the same..

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I stand before you with my hat in my hand and tears in my eyes...
To my DG guardian angel I am humbled beyond words...
I too received one of those messages..
I may never know who is doing this, but you should know what you have done for me and Billy, you have given us a gift that means the world to both of us...
May your days be filled with love and laughter...

Same thing happened to me. It brought tears to my eyes and still does to think somebody I have never even met would be so kind to me. We were going through such hard times finacially and emotionally when my subscription was running out. Some good hearted soul saw fit to reach out and bless my life. I appreciated it then and was to appreciate it so much more when DH got sick in May. I could not have made it through all the hardships his sickness brought on me if I had not been able to reach out to my friends at DG and be able to ask for prayers. Those prayers and support have been used by God to bring me through some very hard times these last few months. The person who paid my subcription made that possible. I pray God has richly blessed them for their kindness and generosity.

(Zone 6b)

Could have simply been done out of selfishness. Not wanting to lose you guys. :) Anyway, whoever did it, thanks from me too, though I did not receive anything. At least you guys are here and happy. That means a lot to me too.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

There are angels out there. I've said it so many times, I sound like what they used to call a broken record...

I am forever grateful for the day I found DG.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I can't remember how I came across it but I sure am glad I did.

I've helped people on here, but not by paying a membership.
A couple years ago on Markets Growers, a man had a late frost that killed all his plants he was going to use for his garden & sales. A bunch of us each chipped in some cash so he could keep his business going.
Earlier this year a member was in bad shape financially. I sent a check to them in return for some plants out of their garden. Later another member took up a collection for the family.
Another time baby clothes were donated to a needy family.

Helping people you know sure beats giving to a charity that maybe uses most of your donation to pay wages to charity heads.

Glad all you people are on here. Nice to read about all your experiences with your poultry.
Have a Great winter!
Bernie

Ferndale, WA

Thanks Bernie, and same to you. I'm glad for your contribution to those in need and yes there are a multitude of avenues whereby we can reach out. For my money this is one of the finest group of individuals I have had the pleasure of being associated with. We are getting very close to thanksgiving now and what a great reminder to all of us that the friends we have and the God we serve engenders our deepest gratitude...Hay

You know at this time of year especially , we see the true heart and soul of so many. I am the Director for a non-profit organization in my County. We run a thrift shop, selling used but loved items , to generate funds to help the needy, Elderly and newly unemployed in our area. We help with Utility and heating , Rent and Mortgage payments and Prescription Medication costs. We also have a Food Pantry that distributes over 125 bags of groceries each month.
In the past two years we have seen the unemplyment rate jump up to over 11%, and now the benefits are running out! This leaves families with no job and no unemployment money. We work with these people every day, and try to keep them going the best way we can.
This is a fact over our entire nation. We are seeing more and more people jumping in there and helping each other. I believe we are all finally realizing that a little love and selflessness goes a long way to making a better world! Every little act of kindness is a show of Brotherly love. DG'ers are at the Top of the Ladder!!

Country Gardens & Eufaula that is so awesome

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Eufaula that is so beautiful. Bless you! I am in that exact same position, crawling out slowly. When a person gets them self in a position like that.. it is a very lonely place. Feeling ashamed to let anyone know, and there are VERY little, if any, resources available. Then having too much pride to accept charity. In my case, there is a glimmer of light I see.. and I'm okay. But there are many who share that lonely feeling I'm sure.
You are a special person. It did my heart so much good to read that post.

Bless you too Country Gardens! Stories like that just give people hope and that is such a wonderful thing.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Guys.. I have this job only by the Grace of God! I was in the boat with the majority of people here in my area, no job, getting a divorce, car payments due for a junker on bald tires...then a friend asked if I could do accounting... the old fashioned way or was I willing to learn! I said yes and here I am. I am still pulling myself up by the Bootstraps.....but I see every day how blessed I am , whenever I look at what other folks are suffering through!
I just shuffle wonderful peoples donations and thrift shop sales trying to keep the moneys and Foods going to where they are needed most!
I guess one thing Im seeing above the rest that really bothers me ...are the elderly persons that have forgone buying their Presciption meds in lieu of rent or heating bills. We try to get them back on their meds , but sometimes it is just not enough .
So in respect for the people who cannot help or feed themselves..... I am trying to raise enough chickens to continue for many years bringing fresh eggs for our Food pantry. I am trying to figure out the Strawbale gardening thing enough to teach Our inner city families how to garden without soil.

So many ideas and just not enough time or money for everything but I try to do what I can.
so Haystack forgive me for taking over your thread... but this work I do has truly made me a more Humble person too!

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

EUFAULA..... My Hero......
I tried that straw bale gardening and either missed a step or something it did not work for me. But a food pantry in Phoenix was featured on the news and their garden was made using recycled shopping carts that could be wheeled into the sun or where ever it was cool,

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Straw bales worked great for me. I actually used hay bales. Had MUCH better results with them. Teaching a person how to feed themselves is a precious gift, indeed.

Ferndale, WA

Eufaula, there is no need for forgivness. Your a dear, dear, friend and every thread thats worth it's salt should feel honored to have you and your blessed ideas posted. Indeed my friend just have at it...I love what your doing and I also love hearing the responses from my other dear friends and conclude that if more people would listen and get involved this world can still be a wonderful place.

I have the privlege of being the president of the Ferndale Senior Center and know first hand what so many of the seniors go thru and also have the privlege of working with them and our City mayor in finding solutions to some of their needs...Hay

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I just love this thread! Eufaula you are a real gift, to us and to those around you.

MsJ that is a great idea too!! Many times we are not sure what the plants need or don't have the ideal area, that is great. I saw a garden in the back of a pickup in NY on a video somewhere.. it was fantastic!

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Thank You Haystack , country Gardens,ZZ,Donna, Cajun and Jstr!
Hay, I will speaking to the Senior Citizens group , nest week if all goes well with our plans! I hope to bring up the idea of independant living and Strawbale gardening with them too! I also , of Course,I want to suggest the idea of raising a small flock of hens for their eggs too, using Chicken tractors!
Thanks again guys , you are the best!

Nest week, Eufaula, you DO HAVE CHICKENS ON THE BRAIN. :D Love it. Love it!

Does sound like a great project for all. That is, if the government allows us to have them anymore.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Gun in one hand and a chicken in the other.

Too bad Charlton Heston passed away, he would have been perfect for the poster. Wonder if he liked chickens.
