Really cool
Very nice, DonnaB. I was just looking for a nesting box or two! Are you related to the fellow in the video?
no I just happened upon the site
The nesting boxes are great if you only need one or two at the Most, Cause I can tell you shipping is gonna kill you. Put the cost of the box and shipping together and it will be prohibitive...Hay
he said in the video that they were very light weight but sturdy
Wow, those are really nice. I am going to try just plain milk crates to start off with but who knows. If that doesn't work well I will be looking to buy nest boxes. I can't make them !
Hmmmmm, now I have some more ideas for Serama nests!! Now where is my hammer and saw??? I really like the perch outside the nest.... gotta go figure how to add one to the nests I made!
they love hooded cat litter boxes for nesting
Those are cool! Glad to hear a hooded cat litter box wil work as well, it so happens I have one in the garage and I'll be the Silkie would love it. Thanks for the idea!
Wow.. you could build them for less than $3. bucks! I'm in the wrong business!
I'm sorry.. I hate to be negative, they are beautiful..
I would be willing to bet after paying for the nesting box and shipping you'll have close to fifty bucks into each box. That is just to much on top of all the other expensies. ZZs is right on, if you build them yourself maybe five or six bucks tops. Just get a good look...not difficult to build your own if you like them... I hate being a stinker but also if you notice the slant of the top you'll notice it is not enough to keep the chickens from sitting on it and that is supposed to be the purpose of the slant...Sorry but I have a critical eye for what really works as opposed to what is cool looking...Hay
ROFL!!!!!! I use 5 dollar cat litter boxes from the Dollar Store. The couple of nest boxes I bought in the beginning are use for putting stuff in I need out in the coop. They will not use them. I even have a old plywood cabinet that was in the house when we bought it sitting on cinderblocks out there and they love to sit on top and poop all over it. Use for nest Hah!!! it is the cabinet that goes over top of Fridge. Perfect for double nest box with divider you would think
When I made my nesting boxes I worried over just how much of a "Peak" I needed to keep them from roosting on top.I finally got it right with the Pitch by making the back 28inches tall and the front 14 inches tall, it works! My double nest boxes were absolutely free, except for buying the proper size nails. The plywood was left overs to be thrown away after my parents new deck was built! I believe you could build a couple of nest boxes from just one sheet of 4X8 pywood easy!
Donna your story cracked me up, cause I totally agree with you. We find something that we think is perfect, we get excited about our find only to find out our feathered friends (REJECTION) and they just sit and poop on it...LOL I'm still laughing, your great Donna.
Eufaula You are so right on, and yes in order for the pitch to work it has to be steep enough the birds claws just won't grip. Once they get a grip, you can forget it...LOL and also your right about making so much of what we use out of scraps. I love the birds but they just are not impressed with all our technology and efforts...Hay
Nope not impressed at all! As a matter of fact it took the Buffs a week to finlly try out the new nest box after I switched them. they were so mad at me that at first they just went into a corner and layed the eggs on the ground, no nest just dropped them where they were!
Now the other nesting box is in the Maran house, no one laying yet but my fingers are crossed for a newbie egg any day now!
Green I still love your deluxe coop! - Ungrateful hens.
I think they like the larger old one just because they can all squeeze in there. Goes to show us all that the birds don't care abount fancy.
smae here. mine want the big boxes
That is why I kept the milk crate looking storage thingys that my bulbs came in. They look like really bigg milk ctates only not too tall. I think they will be perfect for nest boxes and easily washable too.
Green: What a great expression of (I'll make my own decisions) Thank you very much...LOL...Hay
Green, love the feeder! What ungrateful hens! Those are even an nice color! Mine only like to use nesting boxes if they are on the floor level.
