It can be done!

I made this cutting for a friend about 2 months or so ago. Sadly, I've yet to mail it to her, cause things have been so hectic. Anyway, the cutting started to dry out way too much with an inflo growing on it, so I stuck it in water in a window. As you can see, it's blooming, and has a very healthy root system on it now. I was amazed that it was able to successfully bloom and develop roots at the same time!

Wow, that is so cool. I have never thought to root it in water...and i root everything in a vase of water.
And a bloom to boot -- gorgeous. Well done!

Thank you. It's a happy yellow, isn't it? And a huge bloom to boot! It will definitely brighten things during the cold months!!

Maybe it's just luck? Because I have another cutting in water from a different plant with an inflo and no roots, and I've been trying to root that darned thing since July. I think plumerias are just like every other plant -- some are easier than others to root and bloom.

It really is a happy yellow. How is the fragrance? Do you know the name of it?
I have had good luck rooting plumerias in a south window on a heat mat. I've even had some root and bloom during the winter when i was told it would be tough to root....beginners luck i guess? They love heat, maybe dip the cutting in rooting hormone and plant in container and put on a heat mat.

Hi! I saw this and thought maybe this link might help.

I used that method with 2 cuttings I recieved last fall. It did take a long time... they did not really root until spring, but they are both doing well and are about 1 1/2 feet tall.

Carol

Edited to say that the original cuttings were only about 6 inches long, and I did not use the pea gravel.

Yeah, I had tried all of that Carol, and had it on the driveway in the hottest part of summer -- and this was our hottest summer on record!! It's just a very stubborn cultivar to root, I suppose. Hope all is well with you.
