I had my doubts about this plant when I first got this plant. It sure didn't look very yellow to me. Now as the weather is cooling is looks great, and of course it's a double. Sorry I can't take cuttings till next year and I have a waiting list.
The plat came from Almost Eden and was in a very small pot but totaly packed with roots.

Yellow oleander
You may know this but they are very poisonous. Pretty tho.
i added a petite pink to my yard recently--or was it yellow? i already have the big bright pink ones so maybe i got yellow this time--they grow nice and fast
Almost every outside plant here is poisonous. I don't plan on eating any however.
Mickey
Right, but you have to be careful about pets and children.
i once ate a poisonous plant whenlittle but--raised 4 kids and neverthought about plants being poisonous-- dogs too with never a thought--i wonder if the plants repel eating --i know the plant i ate was so horrible burning my throat going down that i couldn't have eaten another part if you had paid me
i am not arguing with you josephine--poison is poison and no wantst to take chances with thtat!!
Alaskan King Crab Legs poison me.
As we know there are children that will eat just about anything, and others won't touch anything, the same with dogs, cats are not as likely, but they could too, you just have to be aware of your own situation.

Larry!! I guess you are feeling better, it is good to have you back.
Josephine.
right josephine--
The surgeon said Thursday I was good to go. I told him he had his three chances, I should be good to go. I have been put to sleep 8 times in 18 months I might only have one time left.
Well, I hope you never have to go through it again.
Orleanders are grown everywhere... no one worries about their poison.. I have had them in my yards since I was a child.. never had a pet ever bother one. I currently have 3 dogs and have raised several litters of puppies, my yard is lined with them..never had a puppy bother one. A friend is a breeder.. has raised literally thousands of puppies with orleanders in her yard.. never had a dog poisoned. Pets are not attracted to them.
I just wanted people to be aware that they are poisonous. Unfortuantely, my years working for a vet have given me stories that were not so positive. :( To me information is knowledge, what everybody does with that knowledge is their business. Even the smoke, if you burn oleander is poisonous.
Lasa,
When you said that your friend is a breeder I was hoping a oleander breeder, not dogs...
Mickey
i think there is even a show called "my dog ate what?!"
WAYY OFF Topic- When I worked for the vet we took an xray of a Basset Hound that appeared to have an intestinal obstruction. The Xray showed nuts and bolts in its stomach. The owner said (I'm not joking) "I wondered where those went?" He had been working on his car and...We did surgery and the dog was fine it didn't seem to care at all.
I worked at a vet in the mid eighties and you would be amazed what xrays show. Rings, bottle caps, etc. Some dogs don't make it, some do if caught in time.
That is such a pretty color! I had no idea one could get an oleander in that color. Thanks for posting the photo, MickeyAZ!
As an advid mystery reader I can say that not everyone knows that oleanders are poison. At least they must not all know in England or all folks back in the 1920's. Oleanders have been good gist for the cozy mystery mill for some years! And I think, in one of Vincent Price's very first feature movies, he used oleander to knock off his first wife! Can't remember the name of the movie but I remember it was a good movie (I also love the old black and white movies).
Perhaps I should start a new plant bed with oleander and Agatha Christie (rose). I wonder is Sherlock Holmes (rose) can still be had? Hmmmm.........here I go again!
I think that the yellow oleander is Thevetia peruviana, and it is beautiful.
I too love Vincent Price, and a good mystery. I'm currently reading a book called Wicked Plants by Amy Stewart. It is really interesting and an easy read more like a reference book. Next in line is The Poisoner's Handbook by D. Blom.
The incident with the Basset Hound amazed me. All I could think was "Are you driving that car now?"
I Wiki'ed the movie, it was called Dragonwyck. With Gene Tierney.
Thanks I'll have to check that out. Didn't he host Night Gallery?
Once again, wayyy off topic, but in reference to animals eating the strangest things. I can now say that if a Guinea Bird eats a Silly Band (rubberband braclet things kids wear) it comes out looking exactly the same as it went in.
eywwwwww! LOL!
