Shampoo Ginger, Pinecone Ginger, Pinecone Lily, Pine Cone Ginger, Pine Cone Lily

Bear Creek, TX

I bought this plant in Coldspring, TX and was told it was a "Ginger Plant". Had no instructions on 'care', but want it to thrive the best it can. Was looking for care tips, as I love this plant. Any assistance is appreciated.

Hey, nice work,I have a little garden myself and have lots of that plant in my garden. I checked Wikipedia that botanical name but the picture that came up wasn't same with that here. I think something is wrong with the specie name.

Hi tathisri. I think this one is missnamed. Looks more like Costus woodsonii. You can ask Admin to move it for you.

We don't call this a "pine cone ginger" here in north central Florida (zone 9a). I have a couple of clumps of it. It's called either Costus Woodsonii or Costus Scaber. Here's mine and alongside that, a picture of what we call a "pine cone ginger" here. Note that with the pine cone ginger the flower comes up from the ground.
