I'm thinking ahead to next spring already. What are your favorite varieties of tomatoes to grow? Which are successful for you and which produce the best for you?
We had horrible luck with maters this year! Hoping for a better crop next year.
Too Early to Talk Tomatoes?
Yeah, next to nada here, most from snail and wild cat issues.
We're yellow pear and matt's wild cherry fans, but I haven't started thinking about larger varieties yet. (Tomato seeds are a stocking stuffer here. No Christmas shopping until after Halloween...)
No flaming success with tomatoes here this spring/summer but I am now dining on my fall crop.
Due to the heat stopping the setting of blooms and the incredible drought here, I think I will start the shortest DTM tomatoes for a faster crop in spring. I did that with my fall tomatoes and although they aren't huge slicers, they are delicious.
Fourth of July and Wayahead.

What varieties are those on the back, especially in the middle on the green plate?
Celebrity and BHN 444
We prefer growing heirlooms and indeterminates, but we've had good success in the past with Park's Whopper and Homestead tomatoes.
never too early to be thinking about maters..My favorite is Early Girl which I have been growing since it was first introduced in the early 70s..I have grown it in the high desert with it's very short growing season and in the heat and humidity of SE Oklahoma
Pod, how do you like the Wayaheads?
I do like them although they are small, they are sweet.
