The closest I can get on this one is a thrush of some sort. But the wings are really throwing me. also, the beak, while having the dual coloration, seems rather straight.
CLOSED: Thrush?
I found this page about migratory Thrushes of Illinois: http://birdfreak.com/illinois-migratory-thrushes/
Looks like the Swainson's Thrush to me: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/swainsons_thrush/id

Possibly an American Pipit. Known to hang around mudflats and open fields. Normally in flock's.
thanks Burd, I agree with american pipit! Lin, I forgot to mention that the thrushes don't have those dark legs.
LOL, glad Burd stopped by to give us a correct ID. Sure is a pretty little bird! I don't think I've ever seen a Pipit before but my Florida bird book says the American Pipit is a fairly common winter visitors here, migrants arrive here by October and usually depart by March. I'll have to be on the lookout for one!
It was very cute. Did some sort of fly over me, chatting away. Then went to look for bugs and had a bath!
Ditto to American Pipit
