I am looking for an intense yellow that does not turn orange. I live in a cooler climate, not like TX or FL. Of course it would be nice if it had long tendrils. If you have anything for trade, let me know. I have Solid Gold, Naughty Nick, Santa Rosa, Bernignon, Coldfire, Dr. Seuss and Maya.
Favorite Yellow?
ebay borners gold

Oh, lol. I misunderstood. Thanks.
thanks. I went and begged for a trade.
scooterbug,
Do you still have Tuffy? How do the newer yellow ones compare to it?
my favorite yellow so far is Tropical Sunset from a dear Friend
Elizabeth
Thanks. I'll check it out.
Elizabeth,
Do you know anyone who has the Tropical Sunset or Orange Sunrise cuttings?
Thx,
Patti
I still love Dr Seus
Gotta start all mine again as I have lost all but one. I just let this year go by and did not visit this thread as losing 8 did me in.
I gotta get my Green house wind proofed as I lost quite a few things 1st of last winter. The guy did not build the green house the way I wanted it. 2 weeks into cold weather and I used up 2 tanks of gas and the 2nd gave out before I noticed and froze my plants, I learned a lot from that experience.
I would have pitched a hissy but Hubby had the GH built for my bday and I did not want to hurt his feelings. Guy who built it does not speak to me any more.
Lavina
Lavinia, where is Grantsboro? I live in Lake Toxaway, near Brevard.
I am at the mouth of the Neuse River on the Pamlico Sound quite a way from you I think. Are you near Ashville?
Lavina
I've seen brugs in white, yellow, pink, orange and dark pink/red. Are there any purple ones?
never seen a purple one but you might could put ink in dirt at roots and turn one purple.
Lavina
LOL
I live southwest of Asheville, in Transylvania County. My home is about 1,000 feet higher than Asheville.
There is a relative of the brugs that has clusters of smaller purple blooms, but they are still of a substantial size and showy. I'll see if I can find its name and a pic.
Thanks. I have gotten some purple datura. Can't wait to see them in bloom! Next summer!!!
this is the one I was trying to think of, not datura. It is called Iochroma cyaneum and is related to brugs and also tobacco, I think. There are many photos in the plantsfiles. They run mostly from dark purple to dark blue and then some that are pinkish. I have one or two photos of one called "sunset" which appears to be more on the orange side.
This pic is the most common one. I'm not sure of the size of the blooms but they seem to make a nice show and you can get an idea by comparing them to the size of the surrounding leaves. Apparently they bloom year-round is our more tropical areas: south FL, south TX and southern CA
Wow, those are really neat and pretty!
I received a cutting of Golden Dreams but I don't know if it's yellow or if it's one that turns yellowy-orange. Does anyone know?
Woodspirits, I've noticed Iochroma mentioned here and I think they are very beautiful! I'm tempted to add it to my want list but as I told my Dad today "My eyes are bigger than my garden."
There is a double yellow called Angel's Golden Dreams.
ken, do you see the Iochroma around? How large are the blooms? They appear to be a few inches, maybe 3 or 4. In a cluster that would be impressive.
Iochromas can be found but they are few and far between. They are hard to root and some say the seeds are hard to germinate, I have never tried. They seem to bloom when they want and I have not found the secret. I have planted them in the ground and it got real big, then I have to dig it up and store in Greenhouse and it died back and did not bloom. I have one in a pot now that will bloom in a few weeks.
Thank you kenboy, I didn't know it was a double. I'll put this in my notes.
I noticed a lot of seeds on eBay
