Recently, I've kinda been overwatering my prickly pear (Opuntia lindheimerii) and it started developing either a bacterial or fungal infection on the side of the bottom pad. So, a few weeks ago, I moved it to where it wouldn't get sprayed when the other plants are getting watered, and then sprayed it last week with a 10% bleach solution to kill the infection. In all this time, it hasn't been watered except for that one time it rained. A few days ago, I decided that it was safe to water again, and so I did. The next day, I went to take a look, and there were these chlorotic blisters on the pads, some of them as big as one inch around. And after yesterday's rain, I find today that some of the blisters had been bleeding! There was congealed sap running down my poor cactus, and there were even some lumps of the stuff with the insides still wet. Can anyone tell me what the problem is, and maybe how to deal with it, please?
My prickly pear is leaking sap
I don't know what the problem is, but remove healthy pads from the mother plant, let the cuts heal for a few days and plant in fresh fast draining potting mix. If you are going to plant them in your garden, wait until the spring to do so. By then, the pads should have developed good root systems.
