Hey Peg.....I saw where Dale is under a deadline right now, but I am sure he will id in a few days, if you are in a hurry post the link on the insect ID forum.

Peg: This is the Salt Marsh Moth (Estigmene acrea). The caterpillar on your other id request is the same, just an earlier instar. These guys have a VERY wide range of acceptable host plants.

One deadline down (article in the Dallas Morning News for November 6th) and one to go (Fall issue of the NEWS of the Lepidopterists' Society).

I have seen at least six of these cats since you spotted that one in Dale's garden Peg. But I don't know as I have seen the moth. Then I am not one to be out looking that time of night!

Hey Sheila:

Go to the main page of the DCLS website and you'll see the moth. It's fairly common and are often hanging around porch lights in the morning.

Love it's gold/orange and black....I would recognize that it it had it's wings open.
