And on another note- here are my 2 pyramids- the strawberries are totally awesome! and the other is planted in YaYa carrots- I fell in love with them- some are up, and a later batch hasn't sprouted yet. I may put clear plastic around them -do carrots do well in cold?
My pyramids
OMG - I LOVE Them! I want some, too!!!
Jo,
Could you post a schematic of how you built your pyramid?
That is very cool! I love the petunias with the onions. What a good idea!
Yes, yes I do! In fact, I shall endeavor to create toppers for a couple of mine this coming season. (So there!)
Gymgirl- most of my projects take shape on the fly! The original pyramid that I posted was built by my engineer friend who made extensive charts and drawings before cutting. It was a work of art-but didn't work because there wasn't enough soil volume in the tiers. I dismantled it and the new one was born. I have nothing written, but just use the measurements that work for you. My goal was to build the tiers so they don't settle down as the soil moves. You could use legs at the corners that are long enough to reach the bottom, or-what I did was put pieces from corner to corner. They can be seen in the photos. I used cedar fence boards-1x6". I made the back edges flush since watering is from sprinklers at the front, and the back didn't get wet enough. Just build it however you like, the main idea is to have some deep loose soil to grow long carrots!
