Gee I wonder what is doing the digging? Another garden mystery solved. Cute but destructive.

I think that is what is digging in my garden too. It goes right under the chicken wire, however I have been smelling a skunk in the AM. Now I'm wondering.... I have dog but evidently their friends. It looks like a bulldozer has gotten in the garden!

These little fellows can be very destructive. Looks like something has been taking out scoops all over with a shovel.

Got a dog I'll loan you... I get up some mornings to find one of these guys turtled in the yard. Pod is an armadillo hunter extraodinaire.

But I will admit, I am always saddened. I like dillers. They seem to loosen the soil so moisture is absorbed and eat grubs and other bugs. I guess you could treat the yard to ruin his appetizers. Then he'd have to shop elsewhere...

Yes, well I kind of like the little fellers too and wouldn't really want to hurt one. I just stomp the "divots" back in the grass like they do on the golf course and water them in. No real harm done.

Glad you don't passionately hate them. It is amazing how fast those guys can move. Now snakes, that will be a different story.

ammonia seems to be a resonable deterent no harm to the dillers they just don't like the smell ..I simply trap them in a live trap and transport them to a new home very near a dedicated bunny hugger (Forest Service)

Last time I set my trap I caught the neighbor's dog. : )

Very funny Lisa!!

Okay that would be a bad thing Lisa but I only put mine where either the armadillos or possums are coming or going and I do catch the occasional cat...

I am ready to borrow podster's dog, mine are no help when it comes to Armadillo. Possums, coons and coyotes yes, armadillos and bunnies no. We have lived here in the woods for 13 years and this is our first encounter. I had just planted out lots of new Gingers and every day I have to plant them again, or what's left of them, they can only be dug up so many times. I hear that armadillos run in fours so I have my hands full.

grits74571, what do you use for bait, they eat bug, right?

Talihina, OK

Ken so sorry for not checking back on this thread ,have tried using earthworms but no luck with that so I just find where they are getting under the fence and put the trap right there ..any way once I caught 3 that seemed to be all ..

Yep, that was squash. I grow good looking leaves and rootin tootin dillas.

That is a great picture. It looks kind of surprised.

It was surprised. I took several. That was the only time he/she/it looked at me.

I like the rootin tootin dillas that your growing. lol

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

I have noticed their digging increases in areas that have had coffee grounds added to rich loamy soil, guess it concentrates the food source when you add the ground coffee sprinkles to an area and water...

uh oh!
