Fall Harvest for the Chickies

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

First hard frost is predicted for early next week, sooo... I'm going to protect some of the garden, but the ragged looking stuff all got cut up and spread over my beds for next year. Chickies were happy to eat zucchini stems (cut into little "o's"), zucchini leaves, sunflower leaves, ailing pea vines, last of the okra leaves and misc weeds - while tilling up the beds quite nicely. I love it when the system is in synch and it all just works. Bedding from a few months ago has just about finished composting - so with the encouragement of a few handfuls of scratch, the chickies will be tilling that into the beds right around Thanks Giving. So blessed to be part of the rhythm of the seasons.

I agree, it's wonderful when it all comes together, I love fall, it's beautiful I think the girls like it also. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the garden...Hay
