Feverfew

Zone 5b...
my folks had a hillside full of it. Now I want to grow it for its medicinal properties, as I have a headache most every day and wish to have it to help me feel good.

Do I attempt to grow it from seed? I have never seen a plant at any garden store, not even the special cottage garden/herb farm we have.

Thanks for your help!

Its very easy from seed and is often sold as feverfew but can also be found under its botanical name Tanacetum parthenium but please check that its the right thing before you use it.

Incidently, it is recomended that you only eat 3 to 5 fresh leaves a day between slices of bread, in treatment for migraine, there are also side effects in its use for some people. It isn't evergreen so in the next month or so there will be none to take until spring. Over use is not recommended and personally I'd go to a herbalist/doctor first.

Have you discussed these headaches with a doctor? Headaches are usually just a symptom of other things, especially stress related problems.

tried it, it did not help me. Also the flavor is not pleasant. I found peppermint or applemint tea worked better for me. Good luck.

I agree Peppermint tea gives better relief from headaches and I find it helps with digestion too.

We used a peppermint cream rub to prevent and treat mastitis in the milking herd, it was great for headaches, we used to rub it into our temples, clears sinuses a treat too LOL.

Janie,

I have plenty of feverfew seeds if you like to send a SASE.
