Forcing tulips in the refrigerator? OK with fruits and vegs?

Pfafftown, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm planning to force tulips and supply the cold treatment in my refrigerator, but some of the sources I'm reading say that storing the bulbs with other fruits and vegetables in the fridge will prevent blooming. Does anyone know about this? Thanks for the help! Bob

Hi Bob,

I don't know about vegetables, but apple and citrus fruits are bad for our bulbs;

I learned that Citrus fruits especially emit acidic chemical that stuns the bulbs while being stored in the Vegie bin. I live in relatively short-winter area, so I usually store my bulbs if I purchase them early enough to get the prime quality bulbs available-- then plant them out by Thanksgiving Holiday. I was told that doing so will encourage the bulbs to bloom for they require a certain amount of 'chill period' to bloom properly.

Luckily, I've a spare frig that I use for bulbs storage in the basement. The one I use daily in the kitchen is off limit to my bulbs because of the same reason.
