Any Experience with Alfalfa Bales?

Saylorsburg, PA(Zone 6a)

Today I had 5 alfalfa bales delivered. The young man said he thought they were totally alfalfa. Can one plant in an alfalfa bale or will they get too hot or be too strong in terms of nutrients for seedlings? He thought, too, they might be too much to plant in since alfalfa has a lot of nitrogen ( he also mentioned calcium but I don't know about that).
I guess one could mix it with the straw and put the mixture in a round cage to break down.

Jesica, Suz was the one that was so hot on alfalfa bales last year, but haven't heard a word from her this year. Hope she is ok. But she raved about them. Total alfalfa. You would have to go back to last year and I think the year before to see her pictures and hear what she has to say about it.

Jnette,
What is Suz's DG name? Is it Suze? Maybe I could just D-mail her to get the info since I don't have time at the moment to research back threads. Thanks for the lead.
I am setting out my new bales slowly as I rip out the tomato plants and create new spots by moving one broken down bale onto another one for next year. I haven't set out any of the alfalfa ones as I wait to see what others have to say about them. Glad to hear someone raved about them. I obviously missed that thread entirely! Wonder where I was as I usually read all the threads on strawbale gardening!!

Thanks Sally, I Dmailed Suz' name to her. Where is the bump? On the regular thread started by Kent? I will look. Thanks again.

It's on the strawbale gardening forum . I bumped up her old thread to put it at the top where you won't have to look for it so far down the forum.

Thanks, Digger, for bumping that one up. I, too, love the worm castings in the bales. But I am still looking for info on the Alfalfa Bales, if anyone has used them. So far no luck in tracking that down on the Strawbale Gardening Forum. Worse comes to worse I will simply plant in them next year and report on the results! I have 5 bales to experiment with and know where to get more if they turn out to be better than straw or hay. Thanks for trying for me!!
