I'm pretty sure I saw 5 whooping cranes today on the Illinois river at Peoria today. I didn't get a picture because I was driving on the Highway. I can't think of any other white bird that is gigantic with black tipped wings, with long legs trailing behind. They were flying overhead and circling a mudflat that had hundreds of other water birds visiting. It would be another lifer for me, I should go get my camera and see if they are still in the area.
