There is a lot of pretty, variegated lamium that is overgrowing my hostas in the front of the house. This area gets a little afternoon sun but is mostly in shade all day. Also it's at the top of the ridge of our yard so it tends to be dry.
Now, the question: I have a big maple tree under which nothing wants to grow... probably because there's a big thick mat of tiny roots that make it very hard to dig.
What I want to do is dig the lamium out around the hostas and move it -- either to under the tree or to around the bushes that get total shade. Can I do this?
TIA,
Love in Christ,
Janie

Lamium question
You can but if the roots from the Maple are really matting the Lamium will have a tough time getting established. Try a small bit first so you don't loose the whole lot and see how well it takes off it will need a fair bit of watering to get it started. We have a mass of Lamium under an old pear tree which never gets any sun at soil level.
Thanks Baa, that's what I needed to hear... it won't get any sun at soil level under there.
Hooray!

Janie only one thing though, keep it trimmed in as it will take off in the direction of the light!
Hi, Would one of you guys be willing to trade some of your lamium. I have been looking forit for a long time. Thanks
Busybee
Whie I would say yes, I won't trade plant material outside of the EU. If I can get some seeds once the Lamium has stopped flowering then I will be happy to trade. Maybe someone else has a piece of plant they can share :) if not let me know and I'll go on a seed hunt.
Busybee, I have some new Lamium 'Pink Pewter' that I planted this year; however, it's going dormant, and I hate to mess with it too much right now. But if you don't find any this fall, check back with me in early spring, and I'll be glad to send you some then :) This variety has done very well for me - I had three small plants from Bluestone Perennials, and each plant is now covering a 18-24" diameter area.
