Experience with amsonia?

Lynnwood, WA(Zone 7a)

Got this plant on the "cheap" rack at a local nursery and know nothing about it. Does anyone have information to share on this plant?

Patti, I mistakenly read this as "insomnia" which I can certainly comment on... but no experience with amsonia (other than to look it up in the plant files to see what it is). I'm sure someone will chime in.

Great fall color, but it does not like to be too wet!

Port Angeles, WA

I've had one in my garden for 5+ years. Full sun, good drainage, as stated by Thistledown: not too much water. It was very slow to establish and all others since have also been slow, even in pots. I don't believe it bloomed until its' second or third year. Many people comment about it when they see it, even if it isn't blooming. It is strongly upright/vase shaped. Bright yellow in the fall.
Mine is growing while surrounded by ( seriously surrounded ) oreganos, if that helps you imagine the soil conditions.
