I was leaving work today, where I work in a very tall glass building. I live near Tampa, FL to give you an idea about the bird. I guess this bird hit the building thinking it was flying into the sky, since the windows are mirrored. It was flopping around disoriented on the ground, so I decided to take it home where I have given it bird seed and a dish of water. It hasn't touched either of them. It's been sleeping the whole time. A couple minutes ago I took it out of the small aquarium where i'm attempting to rehabilitate it in and it flew a few feet to a bookshelf, where it proceeded to land then go back to sleep. It sounds like it's having problems breathing. When I place my ear close to it I can hear popping and wheezing as it inhales and exhales. Can anyone identify it for me and give me any tips as to what to do? Thanks in advance!
Can anyone identify this bird?
Catbird. grey with the black cap & rust under the tail.
Thank you :) So any advice on what I should do? I know i'm going to get at least one "let nature take its course" so just skip that haha
I wouldn't know what to do either.
Yes, I would say it is a Grey Catbird. Most of my rehab experience is with ducks, however, wheezing/popping is usually not a very good sign. But I have had a few that sounded like wheezing but it wasn't...sorta like they needed to blow their nose ;o) Good Luck. I can promise you the little cutie would not have lived these hours without your help!
Have you looked for a bird rehab facility in your area?
I don't know if this will help.

pellatory--looked at your first site & copied down information for my area. Rehaber in my town! Thanks for the information, very useful if I ever need it.
Has anyone out there seen a partial albino junco? Or a partial albino red-winged blackbird. I had one of each in my yard in the past week. The blackbird had large light gray patches all over it. The junco had a black hood with white splotches, white body with very light brown washed into white tail and wings.
Just have had finch here like that.
Winter before last I had a junco as you describe. The gal at the ranger station said her kids called them "powdered sugar", and she had a few of them each winter.
