well that is some good news, just hasn't been the same here without him.
Thanks Annie, for your friendship, phone calls, and encouragement. I can't really explain how much I have missed all of you. Sometimes you know it's going to be difficult, but you never really know how difficult. I think ZZ's experienced this similiar hardship when she went on the road. We often wonder if we have made bad decisions when it gets difficult. This was just something I had to do. Principal is worth fighting for, it really wasn't the money, but rather I felt it was a battle I had to fight. I feel vindicated having returned to the forum with my former service provider but at 1/4 the cost. Thank you, all of you for your kind words. You may not believe this but I felt you spirit and support while I was away. This really served to open my eyes about how really precious all of you have become to me. My poor wife kept telling me, honey they will all be there when this is over, in the meantime cheer up. Well she was right. Face book just is not the same, I love it here with my family of friends and this is where I will stay. Your all really a "Breath of Fresh Air" Hugs to all of you and thank you for your support...Hay
Welcome back hay. Glad you won the fight!!!!!!
Welcome home!!!
Thanks Wren, and Donna. It's early and I'm already getting my garden fix...LOL. Not much has changed here except I have finished with all the standards. I no longer raise and sell, I have only eight layers now for ourselves and two neighbors. I have added exotic pheasants and of course heavily into the Seramas and game hens. I also have been building pens for others, but, only for customers that buy seramas, or gamehens. I have no desire to build pens just to build. I do look forward to reading and getting to know the newer friends that have joined us here at the garden. Hope everyone has a great day and will stop by and say hi to all of you individually. Hugs...Hay
I' m glad it's the same old Haystack; I was afraid all the veneration would give you a big head.
Pictures of the pheasants?
yes indeed, pic's of the pheasant. I hatched these little ones and they just looked like regular little chicks. After about two weeks they became very flighty and would go crazy when changing water or feeding them. I thought, this will not be pleasant and I don't like them. I decided to keep them and see what happens. Well they are now two months old and much better behaved. Not friendly at all as are the chickens but when I go into the pen they don't go crazy. They do go into a corner and seem relieved when I leave but thats ok. I have only four, one is a yellow golden, and the three others are redbreasted goldens. I think right now I have one rooster and three hens but I'm not really sure as they are just now begining to come into some of their color and as of yet I know zilch about pheasant. I really only wanted them for color and for customers to enjoy. Pic's will be forth comming probably tomorrow...Hay
So glad to see that you are back.
Someone either here or on the Homesteading forum had bred some pheasant x chicken hybrids. They were quite attractive birds; I wonder if they were friendly?
Wow, I didn't think that was possible.
Yep. I don't know whether the hybrids are fertile however.
Now that you mention it Porkpal, I do remember someone posting them. I'd forgotten, thanks for the reminder. Speaking of forgetting, I forgot momentarily how to get to my email...Duh...lol...Hay
Hay, so glad you are back. I have missed you. When you say game, do you mean modern bantam games? I am hoping to get rid of my games soon. I am tired of having to keep all the roos seperated. I don't mind the hens. They are not a problem and they lay white eggs so I can keep them out of the bator easy enough. I have one little gray legged hatch pullet that comes to the fence for me to pet her. The big stock pullets bully her so she stays by the fence by my feet because she knows I will throw rocks at them if they bother her. LOL She knows I will "rock their world" if they mess with my little Parfait. I named her Parfait because she looks just like her momma who's name is Sherbert.
I am doing away with all these roosters around here too. I am only going to keep my big EE roo and my little bantam roo. I butchered a roo yesterday and made chicken spaghetti. It was delish. I still have 3 young roos to butcher and 4 older ones. I can make gumbo on them. I also have 2 game cocks and 3 game stags to get rid of. I want to get down to just layers and pullets and my one yard roo and my 2 bantam hens with the little bantam roo. In the spring I plan to get rid of my second year layers if my pullets are laying well. I have one hen that will be a third year layer in the spring.
A friend of mine where we used to live had pheasants. They were wild too. I guess that's just their nature. I wonder if you carried one around with you all the time from when it was very small, would that make it tamer? They are beautiful birds. I remember the person posting the pics of the hybrids. Wasn't it the brother who actually had the birds?
Were you still on FB all this time? I thought if you were off here, you were off there. I'd sure have been talking with you if I had known. I'm on there a few times a day most days.
