Description or What is it Called?

Arlington, TX

I have 3 plants, they are yellow cone flowers but I don't think they are R. pinnata. They have thick strap like grayish leaves and bloom once, sending up tall stalks with yellow flowers that curve downwards. Any ideas? I want to move them as they seem unhappy in a rather dry bed.

I am going to answer my own post. They are giant coneflowers (looked around on the net). Now back to my question, is anyone growing them and what do they need?

I know they like a lot of water, they naturally grow in ditches where water collects.

That could explain some of their issues. I believe I saw some growing in a bed at the Fort Worth Bot. Gardens and they looked healthy. I think of them more as an oddity than really part of the garden plan. They will be moved to a small area that holds moisture better and hopefully they will bloom better there.

That one that the latin name is better than the common name:
Rudbeckia maxima

They were not that impressive in my yard!
