What's blooming in October?

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Here is my first try in terrariums department. OK, not exactly terrium but look how happy the sinningias are in their dish garden! They even don't need any cover and seem to have enough moisture to flourish. Msbonnie, they all said hello to you!

Close-up, I don't know her name but she's amazing -- the flower is nearly the size of the plant itself!

Another gloxinia started blooming. It's funny but I don't remember getting that pinkish one. Could it be some mutation of my older red?

Thank you. I had a violet club meeting and I ordered and bought all of the things we needed and taught everyone to make the violet charms. I moved so I don't have that club now.

La Solidad Bronze, an episcia with very delicate leaves. It really must be kept in a terrarium I find.

Very nice!! I am surprised you have to keep La Solidad in a terrarium and not the pink one.Kee Wee is lovely.

I now keep all my episcias in a terrarium as of about a week ago. Living in Houston the humidity seems high enough to support them during the summer months, even with the A/C constantly running. La Solidad Bronze never seemed happy, even in Houston humidity, so in a terrarium it went. As we progressed into Autumn and the air started getting drier most of the others started looking not so happy. Silver Skies seems to be the exception, but even it is in a terrarium now. I keep my plants in an old 20L aquarium with a cover.

Oh, I thought you only kept La Solidad in a terrarium LOL.Mine do great in the summer, but in the winter, with the furnace running, the air is too dry.Sometimes I put them in trays with a dome on them until spring.Cleopatra,I have to keep in a terrarium all year. This one is in a roast chicken container from the deli.

Lynn, she looks great in there. I love the idea, do you make drenaige holes?

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Maria,
No I don't make any drainage holes.I put damp, but not soaking wet,mix in them and then put in the plant. There are usually 2 holes on the top of the chicken containers.I punched them out,but if I need to I can cover them with a piece of tape.I check about once a month to see if any water is needed, but it's usually not needed for a longer time than that. Here's a photo when she was smaller.

I went to the Sarasota Selby Gardens, invited to the Tampa AV and Gessie show.
I thought I'd share some picture. It was a magnificent day and this is the view from the Selby Estate (Botanical Garden) I live across the Bridge on Longboat Key
