I got 8 Coronation Split Sussex, 2 Dels have hatch out and have 2 zips and a pip. 2 of the Bantam Black Mottled Houdan eggs hatched. I took them from the broodie hoping more will hatch out. Pics later
I am in Chick Heaven
SO CUTE
Congrats on the new babies, they're so cute! What's in the food dish with the Houdan baby?
Mash with some Gro Gel to get them off to a good start
1 of the Del Chicks died so only have 2, none of the other pips hatched. I sure hate when that happens.
Haven't been out to the pens yet to see if any more Houdans hatched
Lovely just loverly! Isnt it funny how just seeing these tiny wonders makes us all want some , and then some more!!!!
Ahh, cute little ones :-)) I especial like the sleepy looking little white ones.
I bought some of that grow gell stuff myself to use when my chicks hatch. Of course I have never tried it before but from the writeup description it seems like just what they need to start off.
LOL, At first glance I though the mash in the dish was salsa verde. I had to look twice.....Duhhhh on me! Very cute little devils you have there!
Oh, well, it looked good enough for people to eat! Really cutie babies. You're making it really hard for me to stop looking at day old chicks on line!
Donna, if I were you, I wouldn't put them on shavings till they have learned to peck at the food.. and find their way to the feed dish.. I'd just put them on paper towels and sprinkle a few grains of chick starter and maby some boiled egg yolk. It takes a few days for them to figure it out.. (what food is) They also could have eaten shavings.. not good to fill up on, since there is no food value..
Just what I do.. I'm not saying you did anything wrong.. this is just my way.. is all. Hope it helps!
PS.. You can save yourself a LOT of work and worry by just letting the broody teach them all that stuff!!
I was using puppy pads but I have some 1 & 2 week old chicks and put a older chick with them to teach them and they are eating fine. I am watching them like a hawk. I want these really really bad lol. If I didn't have the older chicks I would have them on the puppy pads. Weird that none of these last few batches of chicks will eat mash. They all just want the crumbles.
Can you give them a little cottage cheese this young??
Oh okay.. I'm sorry.. I just saw the pic and got a little worried..
I've never tried to get them mash that little.. I'd think the crumbles are fine.. maybe egg yolk or yogurt for their lil gut.. I have never given them cottage cheese that young.. I use that for a treat for the older ones..
don't have yogurt, how about sour cream??
I only give them yogurt for the intestinal benefits.. egg yolk for the protein.. No real need to give them dairy otherwise. Too much calcium is not good for chicks.. Of course an occasional treat is not too much calcium.. but the chick starter is really best...
Thanks ZZ
woo hoo 3 silkies & 1 black mottled D'uccle hatched so far today. The Silkies are from my birds and I bought the Black mottled eggs. Not a peep on my SQ Gray Runner Duck eggs ;-( and I pd a bunch for them
Pics later tonight. I just brought them in from the coop and put the tiny Houdan chicks in with them to teach them the ropes
Hatching day is so much fun but stressful worrying about them all. Congrats on the new babies.
last Silkie hatched for total of 4. That's all I gave the Sebright hen to sit. Blk Mottled D'Uccles have another 1 hatched but still wet and 1 zipped half way out. Boy was Mom mad and me for peeking. Will leave them alone for a few hours
1 of my Silkie hens went broody Tuesday but she can only have 2 or 3 eggs under her since I have been taking them daily until she wouldn't come off the nest and my other hen laid a eggs with her on the nest. I must be out of my mind hatching all these chick right before winter lol
What darling babies! Looking forward to more pictures.
Love the poofy doo! He/she does have a certain style. Good luck with more hatches!
this is what they are supposed to look like and this is the guy I got my eggs from
