Do I Want to Put This Cape Honeysuckle in the Ground?

Or keep it in a huge pot? Is it terribly invasive here in North Texas like it is in some areas?

I guess if you don't mind it taking off or if you can manage to keep it in check before it becombs a real problem. Just my thoughts only.

That's what I'm afraid of. I really don't want it to take over the world, but it would make a good screen for my enclosed sunroom that gets the hot afternoon sun. I'm wondering how hardy it is here in our area.

From what I know about it does not tolerate winter very well and since it originated in South Africa the hardiness rating is for 9-11 as a perrenial I am assuming. Maybe in zones 7-8 it can be grown as an annual unless brought indoors.

Of course if you have had success with it in Ft. Worth then it may be hardier than previously thought. I think I would personally try and stick it in the ground in Early Spring and let it get established to see how it fairs through a typical Texas Winter up here. If it grows like a 'weed' all year long but then is knocked back every Winter then you won't have a problem for many years.

I think I'm going to put it in a bigger pot and see what happens. I like the leaves and the hummers LOVE the flowers.

Sounds like a safe choice. Great luck with it!

Are you going to bring it in for the winter or on extra cold nights?

Most likely. I usually drag my plants into the sunroom on the cold days. That way they can get the sunshine and some warmth when it heats up in there.
