My Ric Rac that I got from Lowe's some months ago has put out lots of new growth, seemed very happy and was doing so well, until I noticed this leaf. Its travelling further up the leaf. And now its starting on another leaf. What does this mean? I grow it indoors, in a west window with filtered afternoon sun, and I mist it every morning along with all my other plants. Only water it when its almost completely dry. The leaves also don't feel as firm as they did when I first got this plant. Any idea what might be wrong? Thank you.
Problem with Ric Rac
not sure but how much water are you giving them, remember that most of them grow in the jungles and they need more water than "real" cactus.
I rotted one not long ago, and I was only watering when it was completely dry.
I'd try not misting everyday. That is happening to some of mine and its driving me crazy. I also bought a ric rac from Lowes and I've ignored it and it seems to be doing well. During the spring and summer I put them outside but when the weather gets cold here I bring them in and wonder if all will be okay, usually they all suvive to see another summer. I'll have to take a picture of the amount of plants and the sizes I have to bring in. My husband can't believe I can find places for all of them and I still like buying more. We need to move to a warmer climate or better yet he needs to build me a greenhouse.
hehe.
Watch out with the Big Box stores many use glycerin to hold water longer. I personally would repot it in a peat or coir / orchid bark mix. Or if you are going to be like me, I am going to go Semi-Hydro when I get a job again. There is a big discussion of S/H in the Succulent and Caucidiform forums if you want to know more.
A picture of just some of the plants I have to bring in when it gets cold here. I put these in my home office because it gets light all day and most of the night from florescent lights. Today I put together a utility rack and my husband put in some grow lights for my smaller epi starts and seedlings that are still looking pretty good. wheww. I not only got hooked on epis this year but also on succulants and cactus, along with all my folage plants.
